Sand Lake & the Dunes

Apex Maw Territory
"The wind here has been screaming since before the city had a name. The pack just learned to scream back."

The Land

This claim is the edge — the Sand Lake neighborhood and the wild southeastern corner of Kincaid Park that backs onto it: the great sand dune, the coastal bluff, and the rough ground around them. It is not the whole park. The deep forest trails, the chalet, and Point Campbell at the western tip stay unclaimed, open to whatever pack is bold enough to take them. What this pack holds is the seam where the leafy streets of Sand Lake run out into spruce, and the spruce runs out into a 300-foot bluff above the water. The dune — the largest in the region, heaped up by the wind off the Arm — rises out of the trees like something that doesn't belong, with the whole Inlet visible from its crest. Moose move through the neighborhood; bears follow the tree line; hares and foxes work the brush.

The Shadow

A place of exposure and endurance. The Shadow howls with the same wind that shapes the dune, and the bluff's edge carries the constant sense of standing at the brink of something vast. Spirits here are weathered and stubborn — things that hold their ground against a force that never stops pushing. Beneath Sand Lake the Shadow is quieter, settled, watchful: a community that has chosen not to look too closely at the wild on its doorstep — or at the unclaimed park beyond it.
