Thought to be the oldest species in Aurora, Dragonborn, also known as "darahar", are a proud and pious people that mainly inhabit the islands at the most northeastern point of Wakova. After the Desolate Cascade led to the destruction of their ancestral home of the original Vrakiejir, the Dragonborn turned to a nomadic lifestyle. For centuries, the ancient dragonborn lived off the land and slowly lost prominence as the large human kingdoms began to conquer the lands.
When the Aegis Ascendancy gained control of Wakova, Ardeiria Valiron understood the importance and significance of dragonborn to the history of the world. She saw the way they had been treated in the last few centuries, as nothing but brutes and savages. Seeking to repair relations and gain the favor of the dragonborn she sent Seeker missionaries to ally with these nomadic tribes with promises of a new homeland in exchange for following the ways of Teno the Seeker. The dragonborn would still be allowed to honor their ancestors if they allowed Teno to guide their path. Most of the dragonborn tribes accepted these terms, while others rejected the theocracy as they felt it restricted their personal freedoms.
Being pious by nature, many became zealous followers of the young faith and quickly became incorporated into the Aegis Ascendancy. They were awarded the land promised to them and built New Vrakiejir.
Society
Dragonborn choose from one of three distinct paths called the Tesjendar ("Three and One"). No one path is better than another and each path is equally respected among dragonborn society. Most understand that not all are meant to be leaders or followers. If a dragonborn chooses to leave their clan to explore the world, they are not shunned for it if they bring their ancestors with them. In addition to this, the way of Morngaulir is the most popular religion among dragonborn, which directly guides any path a dragonborn takes.
Tiburir "Born as One"
Ones who mostly stay the same and do not improve upon their ancestor's work, the natural followers.
Throtominarrir "The One Who Improves"
The dragonborn who strives to constantly improve the work of their ancestors, the natural leaders.
Thrikominakir ("Clanless One")
Those who cast off their clans in favor of their own path. Most seen in non-dragonborn societies.
Personality
Dragonborn walk with pride through a world that greets them with fear and admiration. They have taken towards being courageous and honorable in many respects and are seen as some of the greatest defenders of the realm, making excellent paladins and knights. Some dragonborn struggle with their draconic tendencies and must keep against greed. Dragonborn tend to love shiny objects, particularly if the item is attached to some value.
Relations
Since dragons disappeared from the world, Dragonborn are seen as the only remnants of those once great beings. Respected and feared, they emit a sheer mysticism that even the ancient elves of the Aetherii Empire admired. Delegated to the sidelines after the Desolate Cascade destroyed their ancestral home, their dwindling numbers led most to forget why the dragonborn were once feared. However, once they came together under the banner of the Aegis Ascendancy, they quickly regained their once great presence. Now they are one of the most respected species in all of Aurora. Whether it is fear or admiration that drives this respect is unknown.
