Aelithar Lunaris

The Moonweaver

Aelithar Lunaris is a powerful mage and once the Sovereign of Wakova in the Age of Elvenkind. He was often seen as highly unpredictable and difficult to interact with. His loyalty to Wakova and its peoples was unwavering and intense. Once the Aetherii Civil War began, he used the Lunaris Sanctum as a fortress to shield his people and human refugees from the conflict. It is said that, with a pact with an eldritch being or some other force, he got his hands on an arcane spell book that allowed him to modify the Sanctum to his exact specifications and beyond.

The book began to effect his mind, Aelithar began to exhibition signs of madness. His advisors noticed that he would mutter and chuckle to himself ceaselessly and had difficulty holding the thread of any conversation or debate for very long. Nevertheless, he remained fully aware of threats and hazards, and reacted and defended himself with great speed and efficiency. While in the Sanctum, he had only rare moments of lucidity, but if he was ever outside the dungeon, he became lucid for much of the time.

When the Sanctum was discovered by Loyalist forces of the Aetherii Empire, they slaughtered thousands that resided in the Sanctum, all because he shielded refugees from the war. The slaughter of his people that he was meant to protect only made him lose his mind further. He learned of a way to bind the spirits of the deceased to his Sanctum, all in an attempt to protect them, even in the afterlife.

With the dawn of the Desolate Cascade, the legend of the Sanctum faded in to history along with the Moonweaver until it was finally rediscovered by the Aegis Ascendancy centuries later. The Moonweaver's presence was still felt throughout the dungeon, but Aelithar himself rarely makes himself known to those who enter, causing some to believe the mad mage passed on some years ago

History

Born in -1384 Age of Elvenkind, Aelithar Lunaris was a Wakovan military officer, Sehanine cleric, human rights activist, philosopher, and arcane scholar who served as the Sovereign of Wakova from -409 to -95 AE during the reign of the Aetherii Empire. He advanced human rights in Wakova through the use of inclusive legislation and nonvilolent protest against the anti-human sentiments of the Empire.

Born in Aegis, Wakova he became a known advocate for the Holders of Wakova's Freedom movement. As a cleric of Sehanine, he served as an officer in the Wakovan Schism, where he saw military action against the Aetherii Empire, serving for thirty years as lieutenant to Silvershield general Hadeth Freani'athem, and fought under Hadeth's command in the war's climactic battle, the Siege of Aegis, which failed to secure Wakova's independence as the Free State of Wakova.

During the war, he would strive to become the best soldier under his general's command, but Hadeth told stories of the beginning of his military career and how he lost many men by being stupid and reckless. Not heeding his mentor's warnings, he set out with is men alone, unwarranted and unannounced in an attempted to gain a foot hold in a contested region on the border of Wakova and Aevira's Heart. To his surprise the force of Aetherii soldiers guarding a fort he intended to conquer was ready for him, slaughtering his entire squad and leaving him alive to spread the message. From then on, he vowed to never shed blood again and relegated himself to being a strategic leader. During battles he would stay behind the pack, watching battles from afar. He always put his men first, which led to his squad having the least casualties in the Free Army. He quickly became a respected and decorated soldier, always putting his soldiers' lives before his own.

Though Aelithar's side did not win the war, he still came about to being one of the most respected people of Wakova. To avoid capture by the Aetherii Empire, he would flee to the Crescent Peaks in search of a new meaning in his life. Over the years he would turn to the study of arcane arts, philisophy, and prayer. He would then start to go by the moniker "Moonweaver" to avoid being found. During this time, he would dream of the Lunaris Sanctum, a grand research facility where he would become a respected scholar and tome writer.

After the success of his Lunaris project, he would turn to run for leadership in Wakova. In -409 AE he would run for Sovereign and win by a landslide victory in -408 AE. Be then began to use his new political power to promote and spread his pacifist ideology throughout the region. This would benefit the region greatly when humans came to Aevira, where most allowed them to stay in the regions' borders without prosecution. He would become a vocal human rights advocate, emerging as the leading figure. He would remain a key figure of the human rights movement up until the outbreak of the Aetherii Civil War.
