World Weep Opening History

The Matanji orcs and their dromaar relatives, the Witanji, sent their finest to the Hero's March, secure in the magic fortifications of their famous nine-tiered homeland to be able to repel outside threat while they were gone. Upon losing its heroes to the failed First Heroes' March and the birth of the World Weep, the surviving population of Ninewalls dug itself into its concentric series of cities and their artifact-level walls. The Alchemist Mathesis, who had systematically dismantled and pulverized the various nations of the world with her alchemical experiments and weapons of mass destruction, took her time with the Nine Walls. Each layer became a trial ground for her experiments, which grew deadlier and deadlier through this refining process. As each layer fell, the cities closer to the edge prepared for when it was their next turn to fight for their lives. Eventually, all nine walls and nine cities fell and were reduced to rubble, and the lucky few survivors scattered across the Expanse were the only ones who could tell the story of Nine Walls.

Age of Collapse History — Era of Demon-Slaying

The Matanji and their dromaar relatives, the Witanji, scattered across the Expanse and populated the various settlements of the surrounding nations, particularly those of the Ekujae elves. Some are entirely acclimated to their new homes and have found a balance of preserving their past with their new present and future, others banded together and formed population pockets to carry on their own and their ancestors' legacy. Many, regardless of where they settled, brought their demon-slaying prowess and became proud warriors of their villages in the Age of Collapse. The demons, who could no longer rely on their reinforcements after the Worldweep shut off interplanar travel, turned to other methods of keeping their numbers high, primarily possession and corruption of the mortal ancestries. Where the demons created footholds, many descendants of Ninewalls followed, in their eternal quest to keep the Mwangi Expanse free from tyranny.

Age of Renewal History

So when news spread of the defeat of Mathesis in the Mwangi Expanse, and no new alchemical rains were spotted in the sky, many descendants of Ninewalls contemplated what the future would hold. Many had acclimated to their new homes in the various places like Nantambu, Kibwe, Vidrian, and the various pockets of the Mualijae Nations. It ended up being the case that very few have attempted to move back to the Ninewalls. However, those who did found an ancestral homeland completely contaminated and populated by twisted alchemical experiments left over by Mathesis. Due in part to the high concentration of alchemical residue and rampant constructs in the old territory of Nine Walls, the various cities still lay unclaimed as the various people of the world chip away at the remnants of Mathesis.

Government

The various defensive structures present around the site of the Ninewalls belong to a number of mercenary bands, treasure hunting guilds, and other companies looking to profit off whatever lies inside. A small settlement Matanji and their dromaar relatives, the Witanji, has popped up in recent decades and is led by a council of elders alongside a war-leader. The council has been frequently known to be combative with the surrounding fortune seekers, and would prefer a respectful reclamation of their homeland rather than a scavenger free-for-all all. They often seek resources and other forms of assistance from the surrounding nations in preserving their culture, and have received several accounts of help, particularly from the Mualijae nations, Kibwe, Nantambu, Senghor, Vidrian, and Thuvia.

Points of Interest

  • The Ukuja Wall and City have historically been dominated by long-lived alchemical mutations of flora, fauna, and all manner of undead alongside a number of large constructs. These forces have been chipped away at for decades by a small force of Matanji and Witanji, and have recently picked up pace as a number of opportunistic outside organizations have joined the war effort.
  • The Settlement of the Tenth Wall is a primary Matanji and Witanji settlement who have banded together as a village dedicated to reclaiming the other Nine Cities of Nine Walls, and expanding and growing their population and culture once more.
  • Several outposts of various organizations and factions that want to claim relics of the ancient nation have established fortifications and trade outposts around the perimeter of Ninewalls. They are often at odds with the Tenth Wall settlement.

Organizations Within

  • The Warriors of the Tenth Wall are a band of individuals led by the council of Tenth Wall and its war-leader. They serve as a militia entirely dedicated to protecting the Tenth Wall and picking away at the First Wall and the subsequent walls once the First Wall is reclaimed.
  • The Free Captains of the Shackles, Merchant Princes of the Sodden Lands, Pact-Masters of Kadapesh, Pure Legion of Rahadoum, Blood Lords of Geb, and many other such large organizations all have satellite locations and companies near Nine Walls.

Major Conflicts

  • The reclamation of the First Wall and its city serves as the primary conflict of the region, with multiple parties holding regular skirmishes against the alchemically mutated flora, fauna, undead, and constructs that roam the land.
  • Several minor scuffles between the foreign power camps and the citizens of the Tenth Wall have cropped up over the years, but these rarely escalate to the point of openly declared war in the region.

Events in the Age of Renewal

  • The Founding of the settlement of Tenth Wall served as the first major event and the beginning of the Reclamation of Nine Walls.
  • The First Company of Katapesh Pact-Master's Hands marked the first outside interest of Ninewalls two decades ago, and only served as the vangard for the other powers to come.
