World Weep Opening History
Usaro was already a struggling city-state before the opening of the Worldweep, having lost its demonic Gorilla King and its powerful demonic artifact- the totem of Angazhan. The previous Gorilla King had created mass conflict with the neighboring countries of the Mwangi Expanse. With the raids from the Kalijae elves and the Matanji orcs, past enemies who were gaining more and more territory in Usaro land, the city soon found itself in a power vacuum and civil unrest. Before a new ruler could reunite the bickering city-state, the creation of the Worldweep and the alchemical weapons of mass destruction that the Alchemist Mathesis possessed soon rained down on the city before any could take the throne.
Age of Collapse History — Era of Remnants
Usaro’s fortunes did not improve in the following millennium of chaos. Its people scattered to the jungles for shelter, some of them escaping to other parts of the Mwangi Expanse while others sought to establish chiefdoms of their own. These chiefdoms, propped up by terror and powerful artifacts of the demon lord Angazhan, were a grim remnant of the shattered city, and no true king would rise from their numbers. The people of Usaro remained fragmented and hostile to one another, and schisms between population centers in belief and culture would fester for the centuries of the Age of Collapse.
Age of Renewal History
The remnants of Usaro have never gathered in cohesive unity to reformulate their previous city-state. Some small bands of population have coordinated enough to unleash further monstrocities on the world, with several demon possessions creating New Age Gorilla Kings who terrorize their corner of the jungle. The largest such event was called the Usaro Titan, a massive beast who destroyed the entirety of its original village and rampaged across the Expanse in mindless rage and nearly flattened the metropolis of new Kibwe before being repelled and presumably dying somewhere unknown in the jungle. Many competing remnants of Usaro search desperately for the corpse of the Usaro Titan, while others attempt to recreate whatever process or ritual created it in the first place.
Government
There is no unified government for the remnants of Usaro, with most of the descendants of this nation creating a number of independent tribes or other settlement types. Rulers are usually the strongest of the population, with many willingly allowing themselves to be possessed by either a demonic artifact or a demon directly to gain the unholy power to rule their portion of the jungle, creating a great number of New Age Gorilla Kings.
Points of Interest
- The old city of Usaro is still an alchemically contaminated zone, with many not willing to venture closer to the mutated demons or infernally corrupted constructs that patrol that territory.
Organizations Within
- Many separate cults of the demon lord Angazhan exist in the scattered populations, with each cult operating in its own ways to try to gain whatever unholy power they can.
Major Conflicts
- The remnants of Usaro wage continual war against the various settlements in the Mwangi Jungle. Most notable are their conflicts with the Mualijae nations, the Nine Wall's Tenth Wall settlement, Kibwe, and New Nantambu. These conflicts are a combination of sudden raids and multi-year-long plots to inflict damage to the settlements and their militia and steal the artifacts of these nations to garner as much power as the Usaro remnants can take.
- Civil wars are common, especially when new Gorilla Kings arise and lay claim to each other's territory. It is not uncommon for more casualties to arise from these inner conflicts than against the other nations of the Mwangi Expanse.
Events in the Age of Renewal
- The most notable event was the creation of the Usaro Titan. No remnant settlement is quite sure how that titan came to being, with many speculating that the old town of Usaro must have hidden accessways, and that the Altar of Angazhan must be accessible. This has created a two-pronged treasure hunt for the various remnants, one to find the lost corpse of the Usaro Titan and discover whatever secrets or artifacts it may have on its remains, and one to find the Altar to make their own Titan.
