Edun is a unique landmass that formed last in the continent of Zreelas, located much farther below sea level than its partner Kesu. It was a subtropical savanna that boasted an abundance of flora and fauna of all types, with Catfolk and Vishkanya becoming the most prominent species due to their nimble and robust natures.
Soon after its formation, the kingdom of Edun rose to prominence, utilizing the abundant resources it had been blessed with. The government of Edun was made up of three distinct bodies: the emperor/empress who served as both king and overseer, and two councils called Vezir. One council represented the interests of the Vishkanya, while the other represented the interests of the Catfolk. While the ultimate power rested with the emperor/empress, each council guided as needed. Along with the intense discipline, the trait of Wiseman garnered reverence and became a necessary title for any who sought to rule one day, instilling the principle that one should learn from others but be knowledgeable enough to make the most of that information.
However, this form of government was not without its challenges. The cultures of the Catfolk and Vishkanya often conflicted, leading to disagreements and tensions within the kingdom. Despite these complications, Edun was able to thrive and become a prosperous kingdom, thanks to the abundance of resources it possessed and a unifying culture of hard work and perseverance.
For many centuries, the kingdom of Edun enjoyed great prosperity and made rapid advancements in culture and technology, catching up with the rest of the continent of Zreelas. Trade routes quickly formed with other kingdoms and vast trade center towns appeared in abundance. Edun even expanded its borders westward, claiming a large portion of modern-day Kesu, which was then undeveloped.
However, Edun's prosperity was threatened by two geological disasters that had a profound impact on the kingdom. The first was a great flood that inundated more than half of Edun's lands for many months before eventually receding. The second was a drought that persists today. In less than a year, the once lush grasslands became barren, and many buildings were destroyed.
The coin was the first to dry up, as every copper was spent preserving as many lives as possible. The food became scarce next as the farms withered and died as the sun stood ever more so punishing each day. The last pillar to fall was the military as people were eager to be with their families in what seemed to be the end times for this kingdom.
Trade died between different kingdoms, and trade and port cities quickly died after them. Sensing vulnerability Kesu took the opportunity to push Edun back behind the grand river, reclaiming the land once taken and solidifying a natural border.
As tensions mounted among the Vezirs, each side began to turn against the other, abandoning their roles or even killing those who favored the opposing faction. Ultimately, this would further destabilize the kingdom, destroying the last font of strength Edun had left, community.
