Becoming identified in Ten Towns as "The Eyepatch Witch," Vellynne was sent as an agent of the Arcane Brotherhood to conduct research in the Frozenfar, possibly relating to winter's unrelenting grip on the lands north of the Spine of the World.
The Harpell family is a significant power in the town of Longsaddle, and her admission to the Brotherhood no doubt won because of their name and influence. She seeks to prove herself worthy even without her family's wealth and power, though she also realizes using this often helps her get things done.
Vellynne is a crafty strategist, and a competent spellcaster, achieving the status of Master Necromancer in the Brotherhood. Her views are not evil, she sees her necromantic arts purely as a tool. She is often followed by a troop of Icewind Kobolds, some made zombies through her magics, and a snow owl familiar.
She was last seen leaving Easthaven, heading southward to the Spine of the World, with her kobolds and a sled pulled by zombie dogs. She was then freed from Xardorok Sunblight's Stronghold by the Sewer-side Squad, headed for Caer Dineval with an also-freed Knights of the Black Sword, named Deana Auldrice, to help warn and defend against the mad dwarf's dragon.
