Sarith was a successful Drow cartographer in the regions south and east of the Darklake.
He learned the mapmaking trade apprenticing for a Duergar esteemed by the dark elves for his loyalty and reliability. Assigned to a survey project, the grey dwarf had recognized in the young drow a knack for keeping his bearings, excellent memory, and artistic talent.
Sarith's talents eventually surpassed his mentor, as did his lifespan. Inheriting the trade, Sarith continually updated ancient maps to the changing geographies and residents of the Underdark. Often hired by drow commanders preparing raids on vulnerable and abundant targets for capturing slaves, he found he could also profit from bribes to intentionally exclude information from such maps (keeping areas away from the attention of the slavers).
Once a noble house, the Kzekarit have fallen into obscurity, drowned in accumulated debts from long-past centuries. The bloodline now serves the powerful houses, performing menial duties seen as too complex or unfit for slaves. Females will often be temple servants. Males as guards, constables, money handlers, and ornamental eye-candy for the matriarchs.
In the Year of The Scarlett Witch, 1491 DR, he was imprisoned in Velkynvelve by House Mizzrym, accused of the murder of a prominent merchant: Nulnida Faen Tlabbar (suspiciously - a bitter regional rival of Ilvara Mizzrym, the outpost's commander and priestess). Sarith initially firmly denied the act, defiantly claiming to have been framed, but growing mental ailments causing loss of his once-notable memory have made him less and less certain of his own innocence.
With little to lose and drawn toward Neverlight Grove, he joined an escaping group of prisoners - offering himself as a guide, with his exceptional knowledge of the region.
Despite the careful treatments by the druid Vaxz, his infestation grew to the point of being uncurable, and ultimately he chose to become a necromantic minion of Dex, with whom he had built a close relationship, rather than losing himself completely to the spores of the Demon Queen of Rot, Zuggtmoy.
