The Batistas have ruled Torrense since its founding, well over a millenia ago. They rarely interact with the townsfolk, staying in Batista Manor except when absolutely necessary to leave. They are very opposed to change in Torrense, having not passed a new law or even modified an old one in nearly 400 years. Much of their wealth came from conquests in the Volic Wars, but they also take heavy taxes out of the commonfolk's daily trades.
