Population: Askana’s population varies as much as the tide. It is an over-crowded fiefdom with a large wealth-gap between its citizens. The main city proper has beautiful, albeit grotesque mansions for the nobility. The undercity… is not a nice place. Slavery is common here, a lie told that one could “sell” themselves to support their families. But the rich only grow richer, and it’s only a matter of time before some sort of revolt happens.
Geography: Arid, old rounded mountainsides that butt against the sea, growing crops is hard here.
What do they have?: Despite a lack of natural resources, the merchant trade is thriving. Crafters make their home here with the guilds. That being said, it’s a point of interest of morality to do trade there considering where a lot of that labor comes from.
Culture: Here, they follow the Soluna. Many attest to the idea of “cleansing, warm light”, and “comforting embrace of a night’s rest”, but in practice, Light is oppressive. Shadows are dangerous.
Governance: The Grand Gentry, a selection of wealthy guild-owners and old money, rule in a Senate to oversee matters of the nation. Although on paper it is a democracy, it is an oligarchy with the deck stacked against those less fortunate.
Fantastical Aspect: Living here breeds a sense of street-smarts and silver-tongue. Intimidation and lying come as easy as breathing.
