Aundair has a reputation for being the most magically capable of the Five Nations, and this is well earned. Aundair is home to several universities and other institutions of higher education, and has a high standard of education compared to the (already quite high) standard of the other Thronehold nations. In addition to this, Aundair has a surplus of fertile farming land (even after the loss of the Eldeen Reaches) and is well known for its wines and vineyards.

During the reign of King Jarot, Galifar's last king, Wrogar was the governor of Aundair. In the wake of Jarot's death, Wrogar initially supported Mishann's claim to the throne, but that wasn't enough to hold the kingdom together, and Aundair was pulled into the war. The war was costly for Aundair, who lost the Eldeen Reaches (which accounted for two-thirds of Aundair's land) and Thaliost. The nation still hasn't fully recovered, and Aundair maintains an uncomfortable peace with its neighnours as tensions remain high with both the Reaches and with Thrane.

Life and Society

Most of the people of Aundair are farmers, scholars, or magewrights. Most of the remaining land is farmland, dotted with villages and smaller settlements, with only a few cities to break up the otherwise rural nation. The farmers work the land, using magic wherever possible to lighten the load, and much of central Aundair is dedicated to vineyards and the production of Aundair's famous wines. Those who have been lucky enough to attend one of Aundair's universities have valuable skills that allow them to work in the cities and further their nation's use of magic to improve their quality of life. The most talented of these often join the Arcane Congress, pushing the limits of arcane industry and science with the backing of the Aundairian government.

Aundair enjoys a temperate climate, with long summers and fairly mild winters. The weather gets stormier the further north you go, with the coastline being battered with the storms that make it past House Lyrandar's enclave in Stormhome.

Government and Politics

Queen Aurala rules Aundair, and her family has held the crown since the start of the Last War. Aurala is adored by the common folk of Aundair, and she currently has the support of Aundair's many noble families, securing her political power.

Aundair operates on a feudal system, with noble families overseeing vast tracts of land that have been partitioned to them by the crown. Most people work the land that is owned by these nobles, and pay taxes in exchange for being able to use the land. Aurala works hard to maintain the trust and support of Aundair's noble lines, as they provide the troops and the taxes that keep Aundair safe and prosperous. Additionally, the crown is advised by the Arcane Congress, currently headquarted in Arcanix, which performs magical research on behalf of the crown.
