- They decide to go east to Threshold and follow the road north from there to avoid getting too close to Turakbar's Fist.
17th Zarantyr, 1000 YK
- They arrive at Threshold.
- Lozaal Daashor receives a whisper in his ear, that he should go to the tailor's, alone. He breaks off from the group, claiming his armour needs adjusting, and goes to Littlehand Haberdasher's.
- There are other customers present, but the tailor finishes dealing with them and then closes the shop. His name is Deven Sar'kaas, and it seems that he is one of the Khesh'dar.
- Deven explains that the Kech Nasaar have been active in Threshold, seeking a Byeshk mine under the village. Deven blew it up, as the Nasaar were threatening his family. Deven informs Lozaal about Maurezhi, ghouls the Kech Nasaar have produced that can assume the form of those they have consumed. Deven killed the one he encountered. Deven told Lozaal exactly where to find Nasaar Kol, with instructions to be careful.
- With the Khesh'dar business concluded, Deven sorts out Lozaal's outfit and makes him some shiftweave with several outfits in. Deven stresses that Lozaal must not break his cover, he must keep the knowledge he's gained to himself.
- Warden buys a horse! Bap bap bap. They name the horse Bobbin. He uses his druid magic to talk to all of the horses before he buys one. Bobbin has a very deep voice, he sounds like a steel worker in his mid-40's that lives in the Midlands. He's a rugged, experienced horse, he's been in the stable for a long time and he wants to explore!
- Lozaal returns to the group with his new drip, and then they begin their journey north. Lozaal requests that Leonus stick close to him.
19th Zarantyr, 1000 YK
- They run into the Westwind Riders on the border road, who warn them that raiders from Turakbar's Fist are a problem.
- They see Turakbar's Fist in the distance, and are vindicated in their decision to avoid going anywhere near it.
- Dax' Athla checks on Kalshana, who is still being weird. She's taciturn and monotone, speaking only when spoken to. Kal claims she just doesn't have anything to say, which is unusual. Dax brings up the confrontation between Kal and Terfel. Kal says that she has been trying to keep her emotions reigned in since the Great Crag, and Dax questions why she thinks her emotions are a problem. Kal is worried that she's hurt people and she doesn't want to keep doing so, and Dax argues that being emotionless wouldn't have stopped her from contracting lycanthropy and attacking her friends.
- Kal states that she believes using her armour to force a calm demeanor is the right course of action. Dax disagrees, she doesn't think that Kal's emotions have ever been the problem, she was overpowered by powerful creatures (Dah'mir and the Wild Heart). Kal says she was weak, and Dax argues that if that's true, they're all weak.
- Kal explains that the Wild Heart's influence didn't feel like she was being controlled, it was like it was her own thoughts and feelings. Dax brings up her Silver Flame pendant, and that if she didn't have it then she would fall under the influence of Sulzrirtas, the Frigid Flame.
- They talk about finding a way to make Kalshana more resistant to charm effects. Dax considers the various ways to break charm, as Kalshana is already resistant as a Kalashtar. She remembers that Ashi could break charm effects thanks to her dragonmark.
21st Zarantyr, 1000 YK
- They arrive at the base of the Byeshk Mountains, and enter the Mabar manifest zone. The light is dimmer, even though it's midday. Leonus feels empowered here, but Dax feels weakened.
- Leonus comments that this is a nice manifest zone! Some of them just kill people!
- They are very shocked that he didn't mention this until they were in the manifest zone.
- Dax expresses that she feels weaker her, that her connection to the flame is weaker. She is worried that the magic that binds Sulzrirtas could fail, and the others reaffirm that they will kill her if that happens. Leonus is very shocked about all of this, Dax has a demon!? What!?
- Dax explains that she is possessed by Sulzrirtas, the Frigid Flame, a demon servant of Masvirik, the Cold Sun. She has a silver flame pendant that suppresses the demon and keeps her safe. She plans to get rid of the demon! But first she needs some difficult to find items.
- Leonus takes this in stride, what a trooper.
- They change the subject to how stinky Leonus is. Wow, death smell. Gross. They prestidigitate him.
- As they're discussing the smell of Leonus, he steps on a biological landmine. A bulette, but it's undead! It erupts out of the ground beneath Leonus and Lozaal and mauls them.
- Another bulette erupts from the ground nearby and leaps into the group. Warden turns into a bear! One of the bulettes obliterates Moloch, Leonus' skeleton warhorse.
- Kalshana almost gets bitten in half! Big ouch!
- Dax and Leonus both heal her up afterwards. They discuss what the fuck that creature was, Leonus explains that they're Bulettes, wildlife endemic to Karrnath. They're incredibly aggressive, but they aren't usually undead.
- Were the bulettes animated by the manifest zone, or someone else?
- They discuss options to avoid getting bulette'd again, including Warden turning into a big bird. Lozaal doesn't want to draw attention by flying.
- They decide to send Leonus and Lozaal a bit ahead of the others, as they make the most noise in their heavy armour. The others space themselves out so that more than one person can't be buletted.
