Lan Hazal is the current head of the Hazal family, a family of Karrnathi immigrants in Sharn. They are the wealthiest family in the Grauwand district in Middle Tavick's Landing, having made their fortune in the smelting industry. More than that, though, the Hazal family also run the only temple to the Blood of Vol in Sharn.
Lan is the only priest of the Blood of Vol in the Grauwand district of Sharn, where most of the cities seekers reside. Within his family estate is the only temple to the Blood of Vol in the city, and he allows all of the district's seekers to access it whenever they need. He is capable of harnessing his divinity within to create miracles, but he considers the use of magic to be serious, and he is hesitant to use it. He would rather that people be able to solve their problems on their own, though he often gives advice and has been known to offer financial assistance to those in need.
Anika Hazal, Lan's wife, died of a mysterious wasting disease in 998 YK. He has not recovered from the loss, and though there is significant interest within the district on who will be the next Lady Hazal, Lan has shown little interest in anyone since Anika's death. Lan has had dealings with the Order of the Emerald Claw in the past, but he disagrees with their methods and has never associated with the order. He suspects that they may have had a hand in the death of his wife after he refused to help them.
