She has considerable wealth from her holdings in Zilargo, and is using those funds to bankroll Nigel Faurious's research into the planes. It's particularly fitting, as her ancestor, Dorius Alyre ir'Korran, was responsible for the research that led to most of the current understanding of the planes.
