Somewhere Around the 5th Sypheros, 999 YK

Part 1

We open the scene with them all on the Mistrunner, sailing on the Sea of Sorrow. It's raining and miserable.
Ozias is cold
Blink is passing the time by making up poetry from their lookout perch. Silently in their head.
Thall is thinking about the leviathans beneath the waves. She's amphibious, and spent much of her time in the water before becoming the Mistrunner's shipsoul. She particularly thinks of one "big octopus motherfucker" that wrecks ships and then disappears
Odesssa is captivating by an ethereal, angelic song. She snaps out of it right at the edge, about to jump overboard.
Blink is loudly recanting a sea shanty to try and keep the devilish song out of their ears. It's working, but it's taking all of their concentration and they can't help anyone else.
Thall uses some of the seaweed in her hair to cast a countercharm to fight off the song's influence. Similar to Blink, it's working but only for Thall
Ozias has no defense against the song, but his skeleton companion Stanley tries to cover his ears. Same as the others, it's working for Ozias but it's taking all of his concentration (and Stanley)
Blob, who is stuck to the underside of the ship, fights off the influence and attempts to locate the source of the song. It's coming from everywhere, which leads Blob to conclude the ship has been targetted by a Great Olm, his people's ancient enemy. Terrifying.
Odesssa tries to get the crew back under control, and has some success, but it's not enough. The ship is torn apart on jagged reefs and crashes into an island.
Blob, who is under the ship and in the path of the jagged reefs, does everything they can to avoid being crushed. They stick to a specific piece of wood and do what they can.
The ship is wrecked on the shore of an underground island. Blob is conscious and aware, the others are all dazed or unconscious. They're awoken by the sounds of one of Odesssa crew being killed.
It's a small group of piscine pirates, led by 'Orca' Garson.
Blob is in the best position to act first, and reveals themselves to try and draw the attention of the pirates. They make themselves extra fragrant, which Blink picks up immediately.
Blob gyrates enticingly, getting the attention of Flense.
Blink, moving quicker than logic would dictate they can, shoots to their feet and crushes a pirate beneath them.
Ozias witnesses this, and aggressively sends Stanley to tackle the remaining non-Orca pirate that's slitting throats. Stanley takes the pirate to the ground, but goes down with them.
Thall dusts themselves off, and ominously offers to strike a deal with 'Orca' Garson. Orca stares them down, which is very intimidating
Odesssa, now with nobody looking at her, draws her weapons and darts for Orca Garson, slashing her blindfold as she goes. She throws her blindfold at him, and when he gets it out the way he makes eye contact with her and is petrified.
Flense turns around to see what's going on, turning their back on Blob.
Blob engulfs them, stinging them with its cnidocytes as it drags them into the water, ooze clogging their gills. It's horrifying.
Everyone who sees it is horrified
Ozias is not looking, as he's puppeteering Stanley to wrestle with Sawtooth. He yells out "Get his ass, Stanley!"
Sawtooth gets the upper hand, and kills Stanley
Thall walks over to Sawtooth, and says "you're really running out of time for a deal you know. Tell me where we are and I won't kill you"
"It's a limited time offer"
This is very scary, and very effective. Sawtooth surrenders.
Thall asks his name, and is incredulous that his parents would name him Sawtooth.
"Where are we and what are you doing here?"
Sawtooth, nervously, explains that they work for Brakk the Breaker, and they've kidnapped an Olmling and are using it to blackmail its parent into wrecking ships.
Thall asks if anyone else has any questions? Ozias isn't even paying attention, he's fixing Stanley.
Odesssa asks where they're camped? Sawtooth points down the beach, and then Odesssa stabs him in the back. He wheezes out "you promised" as he dies, but Thall said she promised she wouldn't kill him.
Odesssa congratulates Thall on a job well done. "Everything is going perfectly well and there's nothing anyone can do about it"
Huh
Odesssa asks how far they are from Vralkast? Thall tries to connect to her Fomor'ren anchorite, but can't get through. Before everything went to shit though, they were about 3 days away.
Ozias interrupts and says "have no fear! I know exactly where we are!"
He says the same thing that Thall did, they're about three days away!
Thall says she knows that...
Odesssa asks how this guy even is? "How did you get aboard my ship?"
"I'll be honest, I don't know"
"So you're a stow away?"
"No, I paid someone to get on!"
Blob says technically they're the stowaway, Ozias paid them
WOAH
WHAT THE FUCK!?
IT'S A TALKING OOZE
Blob says "but I've been with you for years?"
Blink asks if Blob is going to drag them into the ocean too?
Blob thinks they're all being very rude, they tried to save the ship
Introductions are shared
This is such a socially inpet group of freaks
Blink comments to Odesssa that they have no ship
"Yes..."
They ask Blob if they can be a ship?
"Not quite a full ship, but I can float"
That's something!
As wonderful as that sounds, Odesssa knows someone with a ship!
"...are they here?"
The pirates!
Blink asks if she missed the part where there loads of them?
What if they reinforce Blob with driftwood? Would that work?
Stanley is back up and running, but his head is on backwards
Odesssa asks everyone to explain their capabilities?
Blink is going to scout and see what's going on at the pirate camp
Thall says everything will be okay, they have no choice
Blink flies directly up and see how big the island is. It's not enormous, they could get to the pirate camp in a few minutes.
They drop back to the ground and move along stealthily.
They spot a pirate on the cliff overhead looking out for ships, two sparring on the beach, and one patrolling the beach. There's another 6 or so in the camp itself, which is a ring of ramshackle buildings surrounding a pit with a net over the top.
There's a schooner docked near to the camp, and the camp has no perimiter wall. It's a smaller ship and crew than Odesssa had before they crashed.
Blink returns and informs Odesssa of all of this.
They'll need to take out the lookout, but this all seems doable.
Odesssa then asks Ozias what he's capable of?
"I've read many books"

He also makes Stanley dance

Blink suggests they could use him as bait
"Or his skeleton"
If they have more corpses he can use those too
Odesssa says if he does that to her crew, she'll have him keelhauled.
Odesssa comes up with a plan, if they take out the lookout they can possibly sneak to the schooner and steal it
Blob starts trying to absorb 'Orca' Garson, but being a statue they can't digest em. Ah well, they'll eat the others then
Now that everyone is acquainted, we add the Fellowship Relationship tags for everyone
With that established, they decide who is going to take out the sentry. Blink can carry Blob up and Blob can eat them. An aerial blobardment
Blob asks where the sentry is? "On the cliff"
Blink tells Blob that they have a powerful urge to lick them. Blob says they wouldn't advise it, they don't think Blink would be able to resist eating them
"And if you try to eat me, I will fight back"
Blink will refrain
Blink flies over, carrying Blob, and drops Blob onto the sentry
Blob lands on the sentry and immediately begins stinging and getting into every crevice and orifice. It's quick but not painless.
Blink is horrified again, but less horiffied this time. Desensitisation, innit
When Blink lands to pick them back up, they avoid looking at Blob
They take Blob back to the rest of the crew, and avoid making eye contact with anyone
Blink is now familiar with the idea of war crimes
Odesssa comments that Blink doesn't need to look away, they can't be petrified
"I've seen things I wouldn't wish on anyone"

Part 2

We recap the previous session, and I amend the description of the island to mention the cavern entrance.
Odesssa stays behind to deal with the incapacitated crew, and the crew have to determine who is in charge on their mission.
They decide they are now a democratic crew
Unsure how to tackle the camp, they decide to explore the caverns
Blob is going to take point, as they have Echolocation.
They find their way into a chain of picturesque, crystalline caverns. There are pools of crystal clear water, refracting the light, it's quite a beautiful sight. All of them except for Ozias are inspired by it.
They go deeper, with Blob spending most of their time in the water. This allows them to detect the Underhydra before it's on them, and this gives the group a head start as it emerges.
It's an oversized cartilaginous tangle of pallid eels, each ending in a typhlotic lamprey head brimming with radial spirals of teeth. It senses vibrations in the cavern stone, squirming en masse in search of prey.
Ozias immediately turns and runs, using shadow magic to push himself along. He yells "Run Stanley!"
Blob is closest to it, in the most danger. They dive into the water to flee that way, trying to get into spaces too small for the Underhydra. Even though the Underhydra is aquatic, Blob is defter in the water than it is, and is able to get away from it.
Blink attempts to blend into the environment and then sneak away. The beast is splitting its attention, but its tail sweeps around and crushes Blink under it, it's not even certain if it intended to do so.
Thall makes no attempt to flee, instead approaching the beast and booping it on the nose. It bites her and tries to swallow her, but she holds her limbs out to stop it swallowing her.
Blob tries to save her, leaping into its mouth and stinging its throat. It spits them both out, injuring Thall, but at least she's not being swallowed.
It roars at them, and the swelling in its throat immediately heals. Good good
Blink swoops in and scoops up Blob, trying to fly away with them. One of the many lamprey-like heads clips them and brings them down, but still further away from the beast.
Ozias, upon hearing all the commotion, continues to run. The Underhydra pursues, surging out of the water and nipping at his heels.
Thall tries to make a lot of noise with her magic, to confuse its echolocation, try and overwhelm it. This slows it down, as it stops to consider and sort out all of the stimuli. Unfortunately, this also overwhelms Blob's echolocation.
This gives Blob an idea though. They try to take throw their sound, to try and draw the Underhydra away. This is partially successful, but Blob does veer it off course a bit. It's still on them but it gives them time.
Ozias continues to abandon the crew, running and shadowstepping to create as much distance as possible.
Thall drops into the water, performing some weird hag magic, to instantly transport herself somewhere else (that is also wet) further away from the hydra.
Blink gets up, grabs Blob, and tries to fly but their injuries mean it's slow, and the hydra gains on them.
Blob drops from Blink, releasing their delicious fragrance, to try and draw it away from Blink to give them chance to escape.
The hydra gives chase, ignoring the others in favour of getting that delicious ooze, and bites chunks out of Blob. Such a heroic, noble ooze.
Ozias, panicked, just fucking goes. He uses his magic and everything available to him to flee, and manages to escape the cavern.
Thall water-steps again to get away, rising prone out of a puddle in front of Ozias.
Blink gets to their feet and starts to hobble towards the exit, while Blob tries to weave through rocks and pillars to evade the hydra.
Ozias, from safety, takes a moment to ground themself (with Thall's help) and remove their panic.
Blink starts running in a straight line, smashing obstacles out of their path.
Blob, with a second to spare, starts absorbing plankton to try and regain some of their biomass. The smell of this attracts the hydra's attention again, though.
This gives Blink the room to escape, but they trip and fall.
Ozias tries to use shadows to pull Blink along the ground, to get them away. Thall assists, amplifying it with her ritual magic. They drag Blink to safety, albeit uncomfortably.
Blob navigates some smaller underwater tunnels to escape, oozing out of the wall to return to the others.
They're all safe. That didn't bode well.
Thall begins casting a ritual to heal the group.
"Mend the bruises and the bones, so we can get the fuck home"
With a flash of power, their wounds close and their bruises heal. Good as new!
They've thoroughly had enough of these caves, fuck this. They're gonna go deal with the pirates.
Thall says "We don't have to kill them all"
Ozias is discomforted by this. "From anyone else that would sound like a good thing, but from you?"
They retrace their steps and find their way back to the glitter, and then out of the caverns.
They're back where they started, with new trauma.
Blink is thankful for their help though, they'd likely be dead if not for their intervention.
"Jarrod's fulfilled his end of the bargain"
"I never understand what you're saying half the time, but I respect you"
"Let's just kill the fucking pirates and be done with it"
They come up with a plan to deal with the entire camp all at once. Blob and Thall will go through the water to get to the schooner, whilst Ozias provides ranged support with his shadow magic, protected by Blink.
"We don't have to kill them all" Thall reiterates
Ozias says they should kill them all to save them from whatever Thall is planning to do to them
Thall asks Ozias for some of his hair before they go. He says "no thank you"
"But how will you know we're in position?"
"I'll know"
"She's got a point, Ozias. I don't have hair so you should give her yours"
"Give her rocks or something!"
That doesn't work
"Give her some hair."
Ozias does it, but he's not happy about it.
Thall gets out a figurine of Ozias and wraps his hair around it. He's so uncomfortable, when did she make that!?
Problems for later
They all get into position.
Thall tells Blob they carved the figurine with her fingernails. They aren't sure what to do with that information.
Blink and Ozias take out the patrolling pirate, Blink flying whilst princess carrying Ozias. He smothers them with shadow magic.
Once in position, Blob washes up on shore and distracts the two pirates on the beach, before they and Thall take them out. Blob fully dissolves and absorbs the one pirate, smothering their screams, whilst Thall mauls the other one after launching herself from the water.
Blob asks Thall to tell the others they've taken out the sentries. Thall boops the doll on the nose, and Ozias feels a boop on his nose.
Ozias yells, confused, startling Blink. "I assume that's the signal"
Blink flies over the camp so they can target Brakk. Ozias is going to try and choke her out with shadows, try to take her down before the rest of the camp can respond.
Blob and Thall will attack her from the ground.
Ozias manipulates Brakk's shadow to cover her mouth and start choking her, taking her by surprise.
Thall uses magic to catapult Blob into the camp, towards Brakk. This is very effective.
Blob splats down next to Brakk, and then surges up to engulf her. Ozias continues choking her, but seconds later Blob has already absorbed her biomass.
What a horrifying way to go. Good god.
As soon as Brakk is incapacitated, the adult Olm takes advantage and pulverises the buildings, collapsing the camp.
The olmling clumsily projects "friend?"
Blink yells back "yes! friend!"
Anayakiir tries to clamber out of the pit and gets stuck on the net. Blob, scared of the olm, swallows their fear and melts away the net.
She raises her head and projects "smell good"
Blob backs away
A powerful, booming voice commands them to return the child to it.
Blink says "but we almost got eaten!"
The voice responds, saying it will keep the hydra off of them.
Thall suggests making a deal?
The voice responds, return the child and they can leave
Blink yells that they'll take it!
"Those terms are pretty good actually"
Blob tells Anayakiir that the smell is friends, not food
"Friends...food"
"Not food"
"Not food"
Blob asks if they can stay behind, as they're terrified of Olms. They understand.
Anayakiir excitedly tells them that she is only 2 weeks old, and starts rattling off all of the words she knows. It's mostly bad words, because she has only heard pirates.
They try to take a different route through the caverns, finding their way to the shrine to the Deep Mother, which makes them uneasy. Blink doesn't want to linger, and asks aloud where they need to go?
The Great Olm begins to softly sing, so they can follow its voice.
They follow the voice to a round cavern, lined with long bones set into the walls. Each has holes carefully placed, allowing air to flow, creating a sort of enormous pipe organ. The sound is haunting and beautiful.
Anayakiir excitedly sprints away, slipping into the water. The crew see the huge body of the Great Olm, the mother, along the wall.
Ozias slaps his knee and goes "right, we'd best be off"
Blink asks if they can leave? The olm descends into the water and disappears. "Is that good?"
They don't know
They retrace their steps to return to the surface, and Blob has already gathered the surviving crew at the camp. They load up the schooner, and leave as soon as they're able.
The water pushes them out to sea on its own, and the weather seems to specifically avoid them as they sail away. At one point is starts to rain, but the rain doesn't touch the boat.
Blob retakes their position under the ship.
Blink tells them to come up and say hi sometimes, don't be a stranger!
Once they're a good bit away from Melody's Break, Thall's magical GPS kicks back in and they can navigate the schooner safely to Vralkast.
Back on track for Blink to enact their secret plan.
Blob will also enact their master plan (get big)
Ozias too (get home)
