Califer Lyon

Califer is often wearing the faculty uniform of his school. As a tiefling, he has long black horns that curve from the front of his head to towards the back. His black hair is often disheveled and curly when he is off the clock, but combed and gelled when he is on the clock allowing his long ears to show. His skin is a crimson red and his eyes are a golden yellow. Hair similar to that of a lion grows on his tail which he often keeps tucked in a long coat. He wears thick rimmed glasses on his face that he consistently needs to adjust throughout the day. Light stubble lines his chiseled jaw of his gentle face. He has well manicured black nails, keeping them nice and trimmed. His lean body stands at about 5'8"

As an explorer, Califer would go on a variety of expeditions alongside his partners Tialana and her sister Yalanda. He specialized in necrotic magic and herbs, but he was more renown for being a master with history. They were tasked by the school to go out and research. After a curious encounter the group decided to go after something they referred to as the “Masked Ones”. A cryptid like being who was believed to have extraordinary powers and abilities. For a while they started to believe that it was nothing more than just fairy tales. That was until they encountered one of them themselves.

That encountered changed their minds and caused them to pursue even further. They devised a plan to try and capture one the beings once they were able to track one down. Following a pattern, they were able to locate on of them. There was another member to their group, however after they had captured the masked individual there was an unfortunate accident. The individual perished when they met the mask, bringing it to their face and facing the horrific curse that was bound to it. Because of the incident, Califer and the others resigned from their positions as researchers and began to utilize their skills to teach instead. Every piece of their research was scrapped, and they made a vow to never speak of the beings ever again. 

Over the years, Califer's teachings became somewhat of a taboo within the magical society. Most think it's because of his demonic like appearance and the assumptions to his heritage and the connection to the Demon War. With his specialization in Necromancy, he started to teach less spells and more on the history of it’s uses.

As a professor at the Academic City of Lemont, Califer had started to develop a minor crush on Ritta Moontail, one of the other professors. He never acted on it and simply kept his crush a secret the best that he could. He provided her with samples of his blood for her research, not realizing she was attempting to recreate the mysterious masks he was once in possession of. 

Visitors came to the Academy one day with a lead to a mission they were on. He learned that they were in search of the Great Sages from long ago and about Mandolynne’s family. Intrigued by what they were doing he valued that their intentions were of pure heart once he heard what they had to share. He aided them, by providing them with what information he deemed as useful and even went as far as to aid Shoal with poisons for his weapons and help them gain access to the Feywild gate. He instructed the group that they were best to talk to Ritta when they could. When doing so, the group discovered that Ritta was brutally murdered by the hands of Corbin Denorla. He was one of the first on the scene and one of the first to sound the alarm.

When the uproar and chaos started, Califer regained his composure and then some. Before the events, he was a nervous eccentric individual but now he was a stern and angry person. He maintained the mob that was forming against his new allies and showed his true strengths that he withheld previously. He aided the allies on their escape from the school grounds and proceeded with the investigation on Ritta’s death. Using his necrotic powers, he was able to get a lead on what happened to her.

When the rise of the Unknown came about, Califer found himself in the heat of battle. Many accused him of allying with the enemy because of his Tiefling nature, but he ended up proving himself time after time again. With his former partner’s, Tialana and Yalanda, the three of them banded together to form a coalition within the Academy. He and the others aided the new sages upon their return and fought in the front lines.
