Session 23

After entering Baramen, we placed the horse in a stable, then made our way into the city. Soon after, a small boy grabbed Whisper’s purse and began to ran away, until a half orc stopped him. The man came to us and guided us  through the city, mentioning a lot of different places. He said he was someone who loves meeting people.

Eventually, he brought us to a tavern, the fancy type, with lots of rich folks inside. The half orc then told us that we were his friends and offered us a room, since he owns the Inn with a goblin named Lardo. The half orc told us his name was Zuri Morningfall.

After this, we decided to take a bath and to NOT get shitfaced, as everyone in this place seemed too nice. Before dining however we went to the city’s magic shop: Lyla’s Antiquities. There, we met the owner, a red tiefling named Lyla. We asked her some questions about the swamp: apparently, there was a forest there only a few years ago, and it a few days it became a swamp. We then asked about the oozing people; but she didn’t know much, suggesting that it might be because of a Hag.

Since we didn’t have much money, we asked her if we could do something for her in exchange for items: she wanted us find a halfling man named Kazrin, who worked for her but never did his last delivery. He’s said to have bright red hair, freckles, and to wear green leather.

After this we went back to the Inn, which is called the Excellent Tawdry. Whisper immediately avoided a flying tankard. We sat and ate, drank, talked, up until Zuri came to our table and gave us some wine. We shared stories for a while, and he mentioned a place that was blown up and how an old wizard he knew was framed. He said he didn’t believe in the wizard’s guilt however, and he asked us to look into it, even though the district where it happened is closed: The Opal District. The wizard name is Hadan.

Zuri also told us that strange people arrived in the city. He mentioned having a “business”, and that he has some “boys” who do the odd jobs. From there, we asked him for more informations, but he told us we asked a lot, so Adriel offered him to drink a bottle of something with him. Zuri brought a bottle of dwarven ale, and said that he would answer two questions if Adriel managed to drink half of it with him, which they did.

First question: what kind of business does he run : he said that he mostly smuggled things into the city.

Second question: who should we go to to have contacts in the city: He answered that he’s the shadiest person in there and that he’s the only contact we need.

After this, he went away.

Despite Adriel being a bit drunk, the group decided to go to the settlements Lyla mentioned were we could look into the halfling disappearance. It was night and it was raining, but Adriel screamed the halfling name in the street, but no responses came. Eventually, we began to knock on doors : a woman answered and told us that Kazrin had not been seen in a week. She however gave us a basket of herb Kazrin was supposed to deliver to Lyla.

After this, we went back to Lyla’s shop, but it was late and she was closed. A guard came to talk to us, so we asked him about Kazrin: he said the last time he saw him was three days ago at Lyla’s shop. We went back to the Inn after this.

Next day, we went back to Lyla’s shop and gave her the basket. She also gave us the location of Kazrin’s home, which is where we went next to investigate.

At his house, we saw a scratch on his front door from a weapon. Rane then started picking the lock and we entered the home : we noticed that Kazrin ran a leather workshop.

Rane found a letter saying “you have one day”. Upstairs, we found a ledger with evidence that one of the last person who ordered something from him was a man named Torben, and this name was underlined.

We decided to go talk to the neighbors, Torben, as well as Zuri to find out more about this.
