The Beholder Twins, Xaoch and Veoyh are young Beholders trying to enforce Perfect Mortal Society, they think they'll lord it over other Beholders that they can perfectly control mortal races. Many base lore, clichés, and tropes exist in Xiltor, the soon to be city they rule as the Director, enforced by threats to play out perfectly straight.

On observing the mortal races, they find their behaviors and societies odd, but satisfying to watch. Their plays infuriate the people, beings and deities they often depict for their apt mimicry and mockery. Though, ironically, the Twins are not intending to mock.

They constantly admonish each other for the other's interference with the "organic" development of the town too much, except neither are shy from disintegrating the parts that are "bad".

Vainglorious Statue

The Director wants to build a statue of themself. But every time one is finished, Xaoch or Veoyh blasts it because it's wrong.

Beholder's Laws

A Beholder's laws are chaotic and completely reasonable from its point of view. It expects to be fed the appropriate amount and delivered a variety of offerings and gets angry if its needs aren't met.

The villagers adapt by offering a variety of types of livestock and goods.

Its highest law is not written down, because its so obvious to the Beholder Twins themselves, that none should ever speak ill of the Beholder Twins - they should only be spoken of with reverence and awe.

Curing Blindness and Vision Impairment

Since eyesight is so important to Beholders, the Twins force everyone in town to have perfect vision.

Everyone in the town is administered eye exams, and anyone who doesn't get at least 20/20 has to wear glasses. Lots of older people have reading glasses or bifocals hanging around their necks. There's rumored to be one blind man being hid in an attic by his family, but as of yet no confirmation has been made of his existence.

The Twins also have a punishment for anyone who forgets to wear their glasses. They've been working on an experiment to correct vision without having to wear glasses. They believe this could be possible by using one eyestalk to hold a patient very still while using a second to inflict very small amounts of precise damage to one of the patient's eyes. These attempts have yet to be successful.
