“The only thing better than a dead enemy is a goblet made from their skull.”

History

The Beholder clans that originally conquered Assur in Durpar still operate from the wild hinterlands of the Beastlands. Part of the league of beast-chieftains, (Beast Lords of the Beastlands) the Beholders have machinations much more ambitious than merely antagonizing the caravan traffic and neighboring nations. They want their old city back, and more territory besides.

142 DR [Year of the Prowling Naga]

Beholder clans descend from the Curna Mountains and conquer Assur, enslaving the humans and establishing themselves as princes.

143 DR [Year of the Smiling Princess]

Durpari forces unsuccessfully attempt to free Assur from the clutches of the beholder princes of Veldorn.

147 DR [Year of the Iron Colossus]

Assurian beholder princes conquer Vaelantar and Ormpe. Veldorn is referred to as the Land of Monsters by Maharajah Waileen I.

1102 DR [Year of the Chaste Maiden]

Combined forces from Durpar, Var, and Estagund drive the beholders out of Vaelantar and Assur and send them fleeing west toward the Toadsquat Mountains.

Legends (Rumors, Myths, Tall Tales)

Eye Tyrant Wars. It is not known if the Beholder Clans that exist under the Curna Mountains, Durpar and the Toadsquat Mountains have any relation to the Beholders of the Lake of Steam or of the Alimir Hive, (Clan of Beholders in and underneath the Alimir Mountains and Marching Mountains of Calimshan) that were part of the Eye Tyrant Wars, (Orb Marches, Deathsphere Battles) of -170DR to -166DR. The Beholders of the Alimir Mountains first arrived some two millennia prior in the year −2381 DR, when three of their colony ships—Spelljammers from another world—crash-landed in the mountains. For the next two thousand years, the Beholders and the Calishites had conflicts with each other. In fact, all of the members of the Alimir Hive were descendants of a single hive mother from one of those three crashed Spelljammers.
