Elmara is a young chestnut Treant part of the Harvest Hills Copse. The chestnut trees of Harvest Hills Region were of particular note for the potency of their tree bark for treating breathing diseases when brewed into a tea.

Elmara, like many of the quick young Treants was fascinated with the humanoids that came to her small forest. She would spends hours or days on the edge of the woods watching the humanoids go about their perfectly mundane lives. There was only one who noticed her watching them, Lothar Took. Most didn't notice an extra tree on the edge of their property, but Lothar knew every plant, animal, and fungus that was on Lothar's Plot.

It took a summer before they spoke. In the fall, Lothar and Elmara spent every waking moment together, talking about their cultures, the wisdom of the woods, and the way the stars in the sky told stories for those who bothered to listen. Lothar spent many a day climbing up into her branches, as she would cross the woods to see other members of her Copse. Most of the gnarled old chestnut treants didn't take much notice of Lothar, but Lady Willow did. Being the only willow and one of the shorter members of the Copse, she took special notice of the burgeoning relationship.

Lady Willow told Elmara that there was a secret where a treant could become a dryad to spend their days with a humanoid.  The secret was a joining of souls on a fundamental level, where the long lived treant would give up centuries of life to be able to be with the one they loved. Lady Willow didn't know the process, but it was possible to find. This caused the only rift between Elmara and Lothar. When she told him that it would be possible to spend the rest of Lothar's life together, he was horrified with her sacrificing so much for him.

The rift was never repaired. Over the course of the spring, a blight struck the chestnut trees of the harvest hills. The black fungus spread quickly through the woods, and the Copse was not spared. Lady Willow came to Mayor Ttillipin Gtillipin Tarragon to cut down and destroy the chestnut trees of harvest hills. The Copse had left, to go high into the Iron Maw Mountains where they hoped that the cold would stop or slow the black fungus.

Lothar cried silently as the trees were cut down and burned, not even to be risked being used in construction. The Copse had moved on, and the only thing left of Elmara was the gross of chestnuts she had left with Lady Willow. A dozen dozen trees to restart a woods that had grown over millennia is a poor start, but it is a start.

Treants are known for their wisdom, not their communication abilities, and Lothar does not know if the cold saved Elmara, or if she was doomed when she left. On clear nights, Lothar will climb up Widow's Hill and sit with the largely silent Lady Willow, both of them alone together in their grief.
