Journey to Neverwinter

Investigating Beggar's Nest

Sabine explained to the party that a mysterious illness has begun spreading through the city of Neverwinter. The first reports came in 20 days ago, and have been mostly isolated in Beggar's Nest and the Tower District. Now, cases have begun to pop up in the Protector's Enclave, putting the majority of Neverwinter's population at risk. She gave the party one of a pair of Sending Stones, so that they can communicate with her if needed.

While investigating Beggar's Nest, the party discovered broken casks marked with the symbol of Talona, the goddess of poison and disease. They also encountered Qara, a tiefling cleric of Kelemvor, who was tasked by her church to investigate the same illness. She identified the Dead Rats gang as worshipers of Talona, and offered to lead the party to their hideout, the Rat Trap tavern in the Blacklake District. While in Beggar's Nest, the party also observed robed members of the Cult of Amphisbaena being escorted between dwellings by armed members of the Sons of Alagondar, allegedly healing the sick with their powerful medicines.

At the Rat Trap, the party demanded to speak with the leader of the Dead Rats. A gang member left through a trapdoor, then returned a while later to tell the party that his boss didn't want to meet with a bunch of nosy do-gooders. The conversation was cut short, and a barroom brawl broke out between the party and the gang. Emerging victorious, the party prepared to enter the rats' nest via the trapdoor.

Confronting the Dead Rats

The party delved into the basement hideout of the Dead Rats and fought their way through more gang members and traps as they explored. They eventually encountered a group of wererats, who attacked immediately. During the fight, the Dead Rats' leader Rsolk appeared out of thin air to attack, having been made invisible by his warlock lackey. Another invisible attacker attempted to take out Rhogar from the shadows, but was unable to put the sorcerer down. The party managed to overcome this ambush, but after turning over the rest of the hideout realized there were no clues and that they seemed to be at a dead end.

Qara offered to speak with the dead Rsolk, so long as the party knew what they wanted to ask. The party asked the following questions and received the following answers:

1. Who is responsible for the illness? (The snake cult and Arlon Bladeshaper.)

2. What is the cure for the illness? (Death.)

3. Where is Arlon Bladeshaper? (His hideout in the Old City sewers.)

4. How do we stop the illness? (Kill the source.)

5.

With these answers, the party decided to pursue their latest lead and investigate the Sons of Alagondar and the Cult of Amphisbaena.
