Illusionary Mantis
Wondrous item, uncommon
The Illusionary Mantis is a tiny insect with a natural magical ability. As a defense mechanism to scare away larger predators, the Mantis can summon a visual image of itself about 12 ft. tall. The Mantis can control the movement and actions of the image with it's mind and can't make the image move further then 60 ft. away. The image can also produce sounds of clicking mandibles and skittering limbs. Unless dispelled before that, the illusion fades after 1 minute. The Mantis regains the ability to use this ability each dawn. Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it. A creature that uses its action to examine the image can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check DC 12. If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the creature can see through the image, and its other sensory qualities become faint to the creature.
The glass home the Mantis comes in is covered by a fitting piece of fine cloth. As an action, this cover can be removed, revealing the beast underneath it and causing it to create the illusionary image.
"Just imagine the wild panic this little bug here could cause a village to fall into! How they would all scramble and run! Way to dangerous to do something like that of course, ruthless and unwise for sure ... but definitely fun!" - Jette
