Scissormaw

Wondrous item / Weapon, rare

The scissormaw is a monster of the deep sea, but reasearch has shown that it can survive outside of water for short period of times. It uses it's massive serrated beak as a tool to pry open small crevices in the earth in search for food, which it usually finds in the form of slow fish.

A single half of a Scissormaw's Beak can be crafted into different weapons, like a dagger or a spearhead f.e. Attacks made with such a weapon gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls.

If shown how to do it, a person can wield an adult Scissormaw like a weapon, by grabbing it firmly at the back of it's head. As long as it is held in that way it can be used by anybody daring enough and deals 2d10+ 2 slashing damage. At the start of each of their turns, a person wielding a Scissormaw must succeed on a Constitution Saving Throw DC 10 or have the whipping back tentacles of the creature deal 1d8 bludgeoning damage to them. If the Saving Throw is a 1, the Scissormaw deals it's beak damage to it's captor, before freeing itself from their grasp, falling to the ground and slithering 10 ft. away.

(Note that because of it's unqiue nature, not all enhancing magic or combat skills will work whilst wielding a living Scissormaw.)

"My cousin Rupert lost an arm to one of these things when we were hunting for them near the coast of the Halmurian Empire. It was a ghastly sight. He says he will never forget the feeling on his limb, said it was as though someone had taken a sawblade to it. Such marvelous creatures." - Jette
