During downtime, a crew can seek a mechanic to assist in repairing, upgrading, or modifying their starship. This section provides various alterations you can make.

Chassis

The base cost of a starship without any components installed is determined by the number of 5 ft. x 5 ft. squares that it occupies. Expanding a starship's chassis cost 20 Credits for each additional 5-foot square space added, not including labor costs priced by a mechanic. This cost also applies to the construction of entirely new starships.

For example, a 40 ft. x 20 ft. starship chassis occupies thirty-two 5 ft. squares and costs 640 Credits to build. To lengthen this starship chassis to 50 ft. x 20 ft., you must pay 40 gold: 20 Credits for each additional 5 ft. square space.

Rooms and Walls. Once your chassis is created, you can apply any configuration of walls to divide the starship's interior into smaller rooms. Walls serve as excellent barriers against spreading fire or hull breaches.

Doors. With walls in place, add doors to the walls. There is no limit to how many doors you add in general, but they can impose challenges to traversing the starship if you add too many. At GM's discretion, you may need to spend 5 additional feet of movement, an action, or a bonus action to cross through a door.

Entrance. A starship's entrance can be located anywhere on the edge of the ship, including the ceiling, but most ships typically locate them at an airlock.

Living Spaces. You can eat and rest in any space of the starship using bedrolls, but you may choose to add bunks, tables, or other furniture to make it more comfortable.

Stations

Empty rooms or spaces in a starship can be outfitted with a station. The minimum size and cost of installing a station are presented in the Starship Station Installation table. Stations must be dismantled before they can be replaced with new ones; dismantling a station may refund a portion of its initial cost (typically half to three-fourths, at GM's discretion).

Minimum Size. The size determines the minimum amount of space the station requires to operate. This space cannot overlap with another station's space.

Occupied Space. Each station has equipment, which occupies half the station's minimum size. Characters cannot occupy spaces where equipment is located. For example, a 10 ft. x 10 ft. shield station has equipment that occupies a 5 ft. x 5 ft. space; characters occupy the remaining 5 ft. x 10 ft. when operating the shields. Single-pilot helm stations typically place their equipment on both sides.

Required Stations. Every starship must have a helm and an engine. While other stations are certainly advisable, they are not required for a starship to fly.

Engine Sizes. An engine's minimum size is dependent on the whole starship's size. The dimensions of the engine must be at least equal to the dimensions of the starship divided by 5. For instance, a 40 ft. x 20 ft. starship must have an engine at least 8 ft. x 4 ft. and thus occupies a space that is 10 ft. x 5 ft.

Weapon Stations. Only one weapon can be installed in each Energy Bay or Missile Bay at a time.
