A Federal Republic, Arolla was once part of the Grenwal Confederate Empire, before its citizens decided that it didn't want to do anything with the Empire anymore, did away with their duke, and split off. This move to independence was made easier by its armed forces' early adoption of Firearms and it's convenient location in the mountains, as it made retaliation from the Empire much harder. And after it even also acquired the technology of Firearms, Grenwal just decided to leave Arolla be. Nowadays, Arolla is known for its high standard of living, its finance sector, its general political neutrality and, of course, its famous cheese-making business. Arolla also frequently rents out guards to several rulers of states in the Carniola Covenant, as they're known for their diligence, most notably The Divine Authority, where many Arollan soldiers act as hired guards for its leadership.
