Witches

Witches, also known as Wise Women, Wise Ones, or Wisdom, are a revered group of females in Weyland charged with the responsibility of maintaining the traditions and heritage of the Weyland folk. These remarkable women serve as leaders, advisors, healers, and, in times of war, as Battle Mages who protect "The Land." The Witches can trace their ancestry back to a single individual, the legendary Lilith, making them part of a small, distinct ethnic group with a profound connection to their roots.

In the societal structure of Weyland, Witches hold a position of great importance. They are the keepers of ancient knowledge and traditions, ensuring that the cultural and spiritual legacy of their people is preserved and passed down through generations. Their roles are multifaceted; as leaders, they guide their communities with wisdom and foresight. As advisors, they offer counsel on matters both mundane and mystical. As healers, they use their deep understanding of herbalism, medicine, and magic to treat the sick and injured. And as Battle Mages, they wield formidable eldritch powers to defend their land against any threats.

Traditionally, each Witch is accompanied by a bodyguard known as a Warden. The Warden's primary duty is to protect the Witch's life at all costs. This bond between Witch and Warden is not merely one of duty but is deeply mystical. The Warden is linked to the Witch through a special ritual, granting him access to her eldritch power. This connection allows the Warden to channel this power, using it to protect himself and to enhance his weapon, making him a more effective guardian. However, this bond comes with a significant risk; if the Witch were to die, the Warden would also perish. Conversely, if the Warden dies, the Witch experiences the emotional loss of her companion but survives.

The relationship between a Witch and her Warden is often intense and complex, marked by deep emotional and physical bonds. While some pairs develop close romantic relationships, others maintain a strictly professional connection. Although they were eventually defeated, the conflict caused great suffering for the Weyland people. As a result, male magic users are often treated with caution and mistrust.

A group commonly misunderstood is the Witch Hunters, typically men but also including some women, who dedicate their lives to combating the supernatural. Contrary to popular belief, Witch Hunters are actually "Wardens in waiting." These individuals undergo rigorous training, preparing themselves in the hopes that they will one day be chosen by a Witch to form a bond and serve as her Warden.
