Ularans Journal was found in the Dreadnought after the Cult of Talos was removed from it. It is long and contains many notes from Gadrille The Reef-Reaver. Of note is one of the latest entries.
How does one remain calm when ones work is so close to being done? I,
Ularan Mortus, will finally do what is needed and save this world from
everlasting death. And none will stand before me, not the brutish Talos
worshipers and not that pathetic alliance of lords.
There are many matters to resolve once I am in the area where Merderlain once stood. First to find a way to it of course but even if that is done something will be needed to power the ritual of sacrifice that is needed to put that city to rest. After much of my research I am certain that there is an artifact that could do so, the object detailed as the "ruinstone" in the annals of the empire. It was first recovered in the Planar Beacon by Thalivar but it's traces vanished when Merdelain fled. Is it in their safekeeping? I may have to lay siege to it once the city is found, a prospect I do not look forward to. Still, the elves are numbered while my army only grows.
The bramble Queen knows the way to find it but she asks too much in return. Still our current dealings have proven extremely valuable and I do believe that even if every last of my army is destroyed I can still be victorious such is the power I have gained. She does remain a threat however as she knows too much. I wonder if Karanor could be sent in an attempt to assasinate her? I have captured one of her "chosen" but she refuses to cooperate. Well she will rot in the ships bowels until she does or until she is dead, her corpse will prove more useful. Thankfully one problem has been dealt with. Binding Emberlost to the dreadnought has proven to be one of my highest feats, the barges the Talos cultists use stand no chance against him. Still, the spirit seems to grow restless, pining after merdelain, it's sanity at best tenuous. It recently attempted to tip over the ship causing many of my troops to vanish between the waves. How does one ease the obsessive behaviors of eques mortem? Particularly in its current state? Perhaps a task I should assign Viantha Crex when she returns from her tasks.
Beside it follow these notes:
An excellent find Stormsworn, this does appear to be a journal penned by Ularan himself. It was sealed with an arcane lock and encrypted but I have removed both. From everything I have seen he had considered that calming the ship would potentially allow it to be controlled - to that end I have sent a book with poems from the spirits homeland. You will need someone to read it so I have made a crate of potions to help you to do so. You will preferably a trained bard as getting these wrong is likely to make the ship go further towards insanity.
