(S33) Towering Rage

The group find themselves facing down the suddenly raging creature, as it immediately attacks.  They soon found that they had been right to be wary of it, for it dealt catastrophic damage to Siax in but a moment, and then to Effie too.  But between Tiaumil and Arya, they figured out that it might be possible to calm the creature by magically editing the collar that bound the creature.  It had become fractured when the innate ability in the collar to grow in size with the creature seemed to have failed.  But they would need to survive in order to attempt such a thing.  Arya summoned two creature that turned into shadow mastiffs in the odd magic of the shadowfell, and together they knocked the massive creature to the ground while the group managed to subdue it enough with magic for Effie to help fix the broken mechanism.  The rage faded, and Tiaumil's spell let it dominate the creature, but not nearly as long as he'd hoped.  8 hours was all that the spell would last before the creature would revert back to the House that had bound it, and so the group started furiously making plans.

They didn't know where they were in the Shattered Lands to strike out in a particular direction, and with the towers having done such a good job at stopping teleportation and plane shifting, that was a worry for getting out of the Shadowfell once their task was done.  After a short rest to recover, the group decided their best bet was to return to the tower in order to find maps, and possibly answers to the mechanism of the control collars, as well as hopefully to take down the tower's power before moving on.  It would require at least one other tower to create a path out, but it would at least allow teleportation during combat if they succeeded.

Mounted on the creature of rage, they travelled far and fast back to the tower, but the tower, it seemed, was ready for them.  A great blaze of dark power blasted at them as they dashed towards the tower, harming and slowing them down, but the creature of rage pushed through and soon the doors were destroyed and the group found themselves facing many well armed, well trained ancient elves, and one that summoned a creature of hunger.

Would the group survive?  Only time would tell.
