Before Amet was turned into volcanic hellscape by Areth it was the home of the Arethian Empire, the greatest empire Twilight World had ever seen. The empire was nominally ruled by its undying emperor however all power was in the hands of the Areth's priesthood which was split into three orders:
- The Radiant were the priesthood of Areth, they spoke with his voice and oversaw the empire’s day to day spiritual needs. Radiants presided over the four daily sermons which were mandatory to attend for every citizen of the empire. As such every community, no matter how small had a Radiant.
- The Torchbearers were powerful clerics, warriors and magicians who spread Areth’s light physically and fought off any dark threats. Towards the final days of the empire the days of monsters and darkness were thought to be in the past and the Torchbearers were little more than common civil servants maintaining the multitude of lights within the empire ensuring darkness never again gains a foothold within civilization, although rumors were abound that some true torchbearers still maintained their vigil and stand ready fight the darkness when they are needed.
- The Purifiers were Areth’s inquisitors, they eradicated any and all heresy with extreme prejudice. Some worked in silence and shadows. Others worked in the light and publicly accused any they deem guilty of heresy which was quickly followed by the accused being burned on a pyre, for Areth's cleansing fire would not burn the faithful.
