The Aasimar live on Winged World and are descended from the seven Archangels which are worshipped by the 7 Aasimar sects, the most prominent of which is the sect of Kiriël, the archangel of protection. An increasing amount of disaffected Aasimar who went against the teachings of the 7 sects mosly isolated themselves in The Whispering Woods floating island. In the decades leading up to The Reckoning most of the strongest warriors of Kiriël's sect chose to join Kiriël in the afterlife on Itoa to bolster his legions as they were under attack by Areth's infernal legions. Supported by Areth the disaffected Aasimar used the weakness of Kiriël's sect to launch a full rebellion during @The Reckoning. The civil war raged for decades even after The Reckoning and splintered Aasimar society into three: the Protector Aasimar, the Scourge Aasimar and the Free / Fallen Aasimar. Centuries of religious conflict and numerous civil wars later it is clear Winged World is not large enough for all three factions, yet none of them are willing the give ground. Yet with start of the The Diaspora small minorities of all three factions have left their world in favor of the Void to evangelize their beliefs or find a new home.
