Henk Bloodrune

Henk Bloodrune is a Half-Orc standing at 1.8m tall, with a lean but muscular build. Though Henk is taller and broader than the average human, he is considered a runt in his tribe compared to other full-blooded Orcs. Due to his Orcish heritage, Henk’s skin is dull green to tan, and his eyes are a bright green coloration. His skin is covered in numerous small scars earned from various scuffles and fights, however what is more striking is the bright red runic tattoos that run across his body. A large rune covers majority of his upper back, with lines of elaborate runes running across his arms, legs, and up the back of his head to his forehead. The runes are still bright and clearly visible, but look as if they are starting to fade.

History

Childhood

Henk Bloodrune, a half-orc born into the Bloodrune Clan, grew up in the harsh arid flatlands that separated the great desert and the grasslands on the foreign continent of Iritai. The Bloodrune Clan, known for their worship of Keli and their prowess in battle, held their ground against beasts, monsters, and rival orc tribes that constantly sought to encroach upon their territory.

Unfortunately, Henk was shunned by the tribe due to his mixed heritage. According to the tribe's beliefs, he was inferior to full-blooded orcs and his failure to invoke the power of Keli, the revered orc goddess, served to worsen his discriminations. Henk's inability to connect with Keli's made him an outcast among his own people, and he struggled to find acceptance within the tribe.

Despite facing rejection and ostracism, Henk remained determined to prove his worth. He spent hours training in the art of war, pushing himself to the limits of his physical abilities. He sought guidance from his father, hoping to earn his approval and acceptance.

Henk's questions about his human m̸̲̤͛̾͒̐̕ó̴̡̗͈͍̠͔̰̙̱̝̝̠͓͍̘̣͚̝͇̣͈̙̤̲͉̥́̀͑̊͂̇̾̄͛͊̋̆̀̌́̀̎͌͝ͅţ̵̡̛̲͔̳̳̲͉̳̫͇̬̩̼͇̬͑͐́̓̈̏̇̐͛͗̐̾̂͋́̾͗̆͂̐͂̇̚͘͘̕͜͝ḣ̵̢̜͖͎͕͚͕̘̱͖̳̟͔̹̈́̾̂̔̕é̷͖̤̹̈́̓̊̈́͛̏̊̓͗̔̂̍͋́̿̕̚͘͘͝͝͝͠r̶̢̢͍͖̗͍͚̩͈͓̭̭̝̭̖̠̼̬̿͒̀̅̊̔̆̋̀̏̇̈̓̄͋͌͗̈͑̇͐͗̅̚͝ had always been a source of tension between him and his father, Herg, who was the Warchief. Herg was resistant to Henk's inquiries about her, dismissing them as irrelevant and distracting from the tribe's priorities.

Despite Herg's disapproval, Henk couldn't shake off his curiosity about his human heritage. He often found himself wondering about his m̷̟̲͉̫̒͜õ̶̬̲̣̺͎̬͕̤͉̝̥̭̮̩̭̲͊̄̇͌̽͐͋͆̅͐̌́̃͘ṭ̸̡̠͎̤͈̠͚͔̭͍͇̉͐̉̇̄̇̔̏̌̓̍̆h̴̲̥̼̩̀̋͊̎̀̈́͂̄è̸̦̔̆̐̅̓͠͝͠r̸̲̖̙̥̰̦̜̪̓̆̑ͅ, where she came from, and what had happened to her. His inquiries were met with silence or outright hostility from his father, which only deepened the rift between them.

Henk's longing for answers about his human side fueled his determination to challenge the tribe's traditional beliefs and promote inclusivity within the tribe. He believed that an individual's worth should not be solely determined by their bloodline, but by their actions and character. This clashed with the clan's traditionalist views, and their disagreements over this matter strained their relationship further.

Herg's Death

When Henk reached around 11 years of age, the clan went on a mission to hunt beasts in the grasslands to the south. Henk was back at camp when a group of wounded orcs stumbled into the campsite, bearing news of an ambush that had taken place. Henk's heart sank as he recognized one of the wounded orcs as his father's trusted advisor. With a heavy heart, Henk rushed to his father's tent, only to find it empty. The tent was in disarray, and the few remaining orcs in the camp were frantic, trying to regroup and plan their next move. Henk knew that something had gone terribly wrong.

Outside, the campgrounds were littered with the bodies of his clan members. Henk felt his anger and sadness mixing together in a boiling pot, and was at a loss as to what to do. Eventually, Henk received the news from his uncle Deus Bloodrune which he had been dreading, that his father fought valiantly during the ambush and was killed.

Things were a haze after that, and Henk has trouble remembering what happened during this time period. Though, he heard second hand from Deus that he was inconsolable for a while. Henk chalked the inability to recollect up to his grief.

Rite of Passage

At 12 years of age, Henk went through his rite of passage to get his tattoos, but failed to achieve any significant connection of Keli's power. This inadvertently destroyed Henk's confidence for a while, and he developed an obsession with spell scrolls.

Exile

At 16 years of age, without his father's protection, Henk was exiled from the clan and spent 2 years wandering Iritai aimlessly, before stowing away on a ship bound for Stensia.

1 year following that, Henk was arrested for crimes he did not commit (allegedly) by the Falkenwrath Keep.

Current Events

Pre-Team FTJ/ARRC

Henk spent roughly 1 year in Falkenwrath Keep as a prisoner before being enrolled in the Fate Breakers programme, along with IsildurAra Nailo, and Red Birel as Team FTJ

Army of the Damned

During the events of the Army of the Damned, Henk had a chance meeting with Deus during whilst saving Lil Tony from being killed by a vampire. Deus revealed he had been ousted from the clan and that Denn Bloodrune, his son had taken command of the clan. He reveals that a rune may be blocking his connection with Keli. Perhaps Deus may be able to perform a cure but he lacks the tools to do so currently, having left the majority of his possessions back in Iritai.

Deus mentions Denn is steering the clan in a dangerous manner that he will meet with Henk in Presh.

A Sundered Soul

Henk met Shautana, receptionist of the Grand Library and was able to gleam that the rune may be trying to control or limit his access to Keli, which may be extremely dangerous.

During the assistance effort against the Ashmouth invasion, Henk became acquainted with Charles Estaugh, a powerful religious senior who was able to perform a divine commune. There, in his mind palace, both Henk and Charles were assaulted by an unknown, possibly demonic entity. Henk saw the glimpses of a giant door of Orcish make, encased in chains and peppered with arcane symbols, and felt Keli's energy leaking through. Unfortunately, Henk was beaten senseless by the demonic entity, and Charles being afraid of causing any permanent damage to the mind palace, was forces to end the commune prematurely.

Following the incident, Henk received the Staff of Religious Commune from Charles.

Through the Staff of Religious Commune, Henk managed to revisit his mind palace and in the distance, the demonic entity stood on guard always. However, another smaller door appeared near Henk and showed a memory from his younger days, being bullied by Beca and her posse for his mixed heritage.

During the time in Silbern, Henk slowly managed to gain control over his mind. Revisiting the memory, he finds that it has somehow changed. While Henk was still being bullied, Beca and her gang seemingly was beaten back by an unseen force. Beca continued to tussle seemingly against an invisible attacker. But as Henk watched on, he heard a dark silky voice asking "How much do you actually know?", before promptly being ejected from the memory.

After the invasion from Ashmouth was successfully repelled, while Ru'dail was assuring the party did their best and to not blame themselves over Isildur's death, Henk suffered a strange headache.

The Ties That Bind

At the Boiling Sea, Henk met its receptionist Leese Hadley and was informed that an older Orc had left a message for him. The letter was from Deus and it states that he had to leave for Iritai as things were worsening, but had a task for Henk if he'd be so kind. Deus had lost his possessions to the thieves around here and would like Henk to retrieve it for him.

After demolishing Winsor Spriggley and his gang, Henk retrieved Deus's belongings and found that they contained Deus's memory orbs. Upon examining them before bed, Henk was transported to a memory of Deus, almost 20 years ago where he had challenged Herg Bloodrune for the title of warchief through the ritual of Mak'gorath. Though Herg seemed beaten at the start, he managed to turn it around and defeated Deus by dislocating his arm. After the fight, Herg refused to kill Deus and wished for his help to change the clan for the better, and Deus begrudgingly agreed.

Following the discovery of Deus's memory, Henk's nightly religious commune revealed a second memory door. The entity guarding Keli's gate seemed extremely agitated at this. This memory was older than the first, and took place when Henk was around 9. It showed Herg and Deus discussing the state of the clan, and Henk interrupting to ask about his m̸̲̤͛̾͒̐̕ó̴̡̗͈͍̠͔̰̙̱̝̝̠͓͍̘̣͚̝͇̣͈̙̤̲͉̥́̀͑̊͂̇̾̄͛͊̋̆̀̌́̀̎͌͝ͅţ̵̡̛̲͔̳̳̲͉̳̫͇̬̩̼͇̬͑͐́̓̈̏̇̐͛͗̐̾̂͋́̾͗̆͂̐͂̇̚͘͘̕͜͝ḣ̵̢̜͖͎͕͚͕̘̱͖̳̟͔̹̈́̾̂̔̕é̷͖̤̹̈́̓̊̈́͛̏̊̓͗̔̂̍͋́̿̕̚͘͘͝͝͝͠r̶̢̢͍͖̗͍͚̩͈͓̭̭̝̭̖̠̼̬̿͒̀̅̊̔̆̋̀̏̇̈̓̄͋͌͗̈͑̇͐͗̅̚͝. Herg was visibly angered by the question and berated Henk until he was sent running tearfully back to his room, with Deus remarking to Herg that Henk's questions were only natural.

With that, the memory should have ended, but Henk decided to linger in his room and eavesdrop further which c̵a̴u̵s̸e̶d̷ ̸s̴o̷m̸e̸t̵h̷i̷n̶g̵ ̵r̷e̸a̴l̶l̴y̶ ̶u̴n̴n̴e̶r̵v̴i̸n̷g̴ ̴t̸o̷ ̵h̷a̵p̷p̴e̵n̴. Herg started screaming and ranting about s̴̭̱̍͐o̸̦͊ṃ̵̎e̵͇͕̐ț̴̹̊̋h̵͆ͅȉ̶̝͕n̵̺͕̿͠g̵̰̠̏͐ and that "they" have someone and ḩ̸̲̬̥̰͋̈́͐́ë̷̖͚̈́̽̔͝ͅ ̷̼͛n̷͙̯̑̀͆e̶̟̓͑͆̍ẹ̴̡̒͘d̵̺̅s̸̡̢̕ ̸̧̾̃̔̉͝ṱ̵̐̃͂͌ỏ̷̺̭͙̣ ̴͎̳̣̠͓͊̆̏̂g̶̢̛͚̹̖̺̓͛̃ĕ̸͔t̵͓̲̬͇̐͗̓͠ ̷̢͎̟̓͘t̴͙͔͒̊́̕͝h̶̲̰̯̾̐̕ę̷͕̺͔͆̋̓̎m̸̢̧̀̓̇̀̀. Meanwhile, Deus casually went on discussing non-relevant events as if Herg and him were having completely separate conversations.

Henk was about to pass out at this point when he felt a piercing pain in his shoulder. Turning, he gazed into soulless black eyes of the demonic entity as his 9 year old self. It menacingly hissed "Y̸o̵u̶ ̷s̴h̴o̴u̸l̵d̸n̸'̸t̶ ̷b̶e̸ ̶h̶e̵r̶e̶...". Henk then woke up in a pile of sweat, coughing up copious amounts of blood.

During the fight with Fortuna Domina, the Primordial showed Henk strange visions of his past, and a point-of-view scene of him holding the hand of an unfamiliar human woman of 30-40 years of age. The stranger in the vision was happily saying "Come on, Henk!". The very next scene would have shown the appearance of this lady, but Fortuna was defeated by Zurik Norixius before the image could properly take shape. Henk was left with a mixture of equal parts confusion, grief, a profound sense of loss, and irrational anger at his Dragonborn teammate.
