Crell, also known as the Arch-Lich, the Old Reaper, and the Prince of the Damned, is the god of Death, Forbidden Knowledge, and the patron of Undeath. Brother to the god Solatair, he is the master of the Citadel of Bone in the City of the Damned in Hades. From here his hand reaches far, despite his imprisonment due to his pact with the other gods after the Dawn Wars. While locked away, his avatar is still freely summoned, though with great difficulty by his cultists.
Fair, yet cold and cruel to those who fall under his rule, he is not so wildly worshipped as he is dreaded and feared, even to the point of blamed for the aches and pains of old age. His face appears as either a white skull shrouded by a black cowl or that of a pale man with coal black eyes and hair. He is recognized as a symbol of fear and death, the paragon of nightmares.
Personality and Power
It is Crell's duty to collect and torment the souls of the evilest, vilest, and cruelest of souls, yet those who give themselves to him may be gifted with the knowledge of turning one's self into a lich. It is said that even a touch from his avatar has the power to sap the strength of even the strongest, inflicting a mummy rot-like curse upon them. Likewise, his touch will also immediately reanimate any dead being into an undead form or create swathes of lesser undead at will. He never misses an opportunity to remind the world that he waits for all.
Relationships
Crell is the sworn enemy of the Lord Midnight, to whom he was forced to give the domain of the Dead to and is the judge of the dead, while Crell is left to only punish those sent to him. While he is brothers with the Sun god Solatair, he despises and outright wages war against his brother's paladins and clergy. Crell has managed to maintain an outright kinship with Axgander, as well as Ereshkigal and Velka, to a lesser degree. While many gods share a likewise disdain with Crell and his machinations, he is seen as far too crucial of a cycle of life and far too powerful of a deity despite the near worldwide revulsion.
