Lord Midnight

Judge of the Dead, The Lycan King, The Old Bear, Old Bear Knight, Master of the Crystal City, Guide of the Damned, The Dark Sun
Deity

Lord Midnight, though once a mortal man, now known as the Lord of the Dead and Judge of the Damned, is the god of death and the dead, and master of the Crystal Spire in the Fugue Plane. In his mortal days, Lord Midnight was a skilled mercenary, with the heart of a noble paladin, concealed by rude manners and a dark curse.

Fair yet cold, Lord Midnight was unlike other death deities, whose rule as gods of the dead made the afterlife an uncertain and fearful thing, Lord Midnight promoted that death was a natural part of life and should not be feared as long as it was understood. As a result of his deep respect for life and death, he held the undead in the uttermost contempt. Among the lycan and shifter people he is called Ursus, the Lycan King who greets them all in the afterlife with a mighty feast in his enormous mead hall.

Personality and Power

Once you die you are guided to the Fugue Plane and to the throne nestled in the heart of the Crystal Spire. There a stern face stares down at you, hand gripping the half of a greatsword hewn from dark metals, his gaze cold and near unfeeling. Raven black hair hanging down along his face as signs of the great warrior he once was evident. Aged as his armor, tattered and black the Judge of the Dead sentences you to your afterlife. Or Hell.

Relationships

Lord Midnight's greatest enemy was Crell, he also fiercely opposed the machinations of the cruel, death god who animated the dead into undead and used them for unjust and evil deeds, and thus stood against everything Lord Midnight worked for, and Nar, for the unnatural deaths caused by her diseases. This also made him an ally of Akrus, the Morninglord, who also opposed undeath and his old master, the sun god Solatair. Lord Midnight maintained practical alliances with good- and neutral-aligned gods of death in other pantheons: Arki, the Winter Queen of the Unseelie Fey primarily and formerly Neia and the Raven Queen as well.

Some rumors and tales persist that Lord Midnight is also the sibling or blood bonded to the Winter Queen, but these only persist in fringe circles of his Feywild-dwelling lycan and shifter believers.
