Solatair

Keeper of the Eternal Sun, The Warrior God, Bringer of the Dawn, The Great Sundriver, The Bachelor God
Deity

Solatair, the Great Sundriver, is the god of the sun as well as law, light, life, and war. He is viewed as a harsh but fair deity, even gentle at times, revered by many rulers, soldiers, clerics, and even powerful wizards throughout the Realms. Known as the guardian of that which is good and the twin to Karina, goddess of the moon, and older brother of Crell, god of death.

Personality and Power

Many of the desert-dwelling races believe in an entity called Sol or Sal'tirm the Unending, both thought to be a spiteful young man who enjoyed an adulterous relationship with the moon. This man was the result of the tales of Solatair becoming warped over time to the point of becoming unrecognizable. The real Solatair is a cautious yet certain god, acting only when the time was right to the point he is viewed by many clerics as a punctual and bureaucratic being. Well known to keep promises and contracts, so far to be seen as the political order among the gods.

While some regions may use female pronouns for the deity, he appeared fairly often as a hunched over, blind, old man in tattered clothes, leaning heavily upon a cane or walking stick, as a knight with long blond hair and clad in heavy plate and chain, or that of a youth with young bright eyes filled with vibrant life. Yet all would have the same fiery golden eyes and curled golden hair.

Relationships

A number of Solatair's followers have achieved deity or near-deity status, among them the Lord Midnight, the judge of the dead. Many become revered as saints, as in the case of Saint Taurus, an ancient Reichstager knight.

Among the gods, Solatair is closely aligned with the other good deities, predominantly his twin Karina and the goddess of sin Velka. Though among the gods, Rosandra is one that Solatair has spurned the love of time and time again, yet the goddess of light and love continuously gives her support to the bachelor god. Tales even say that the very sun that Solatair pulls through the sky is Rosandra'sown heart, burning with love for the god.
