Guttenberg's Book Shop has been a family owned and operated store in New Eden for nearly four decades. The building, reminiscent of those seen in New Orleans's French Quarter, was first leased, then later purchased by Earl Guttenberg in 1985. While the business itself struggled in its early years, Earl was able to supplement the family's income with a residential rental in the space above the storefront.

When cancer took Earl's wife in 2001, his divorced daughter returned to New Eden to help run the bookshop. With her came 7-year-old Charlotte, who fell immediately in love with Guttenberg's. As time went on, it became clear who the store would be given to, and in 2020, it came into Charlotte's hand with his passing.

Today, Guttenberg's is a thriving small business, specializing in the buying and selling of rare, classic, and unique books. Charlotte keeps a small staff of three part-time employees, and hosts the local historical literature book club on the third Thursday of each month.
