Stardust Spectacle

A performing troupe with a whimsigoth aesthetic. Most acts are either aerial stunts, mystics, or sleight of hand tricks. Little-to-no magic is ever used in the show. The lack of magic is a point of pride — the Stardust Spectacle boasts its ability to pull off unique mechanical tricks. They're never snobby about it, but the performers almost consider magic a shortcut or the "easy way" to pull off the stunts they do. In their posters and flyers, they specifically invite spellcasters who can cast Detect Magic to buy front row tickets.

If they travel to a nearby town, the troupe will set up like a fair or carnival for a night or two while they advertise, and then they'll have one grandiose show at the end of their stay. During the fair days, stagehands prepare the main tent by putting up a nearly overwhelming amount of decorations: hanging star statuettes covered in phosphorous at the pitch of the tent, heavy velvet curtains & gauzy tulle tapestries, and anything that glitters fill the space to the brim. There's a consistent general haze in the tent which, combined with the low lighting, creates a sense of wonder. Most newcomers are awestruck by the dazzling setup; once the show begins, elaborate sparkling costumes serve to intensify the effect. The overall goal is to create some feeling of unreality, which contrasts the very real and explainable tricks being performed.

Note: They would use magic on an as-needed basis for practical matters. For example, they likely depend on some bags of holding for all their props; arcane lighting for spotlights; thaumaturgy in lieu of a microphone; etc.
