Al'tehrun
Currently headed by the Emperor Isaac Olessar III, The Olessar Empire rules over most of the settlements on the continent of Olessar. The Empire has enjoyed a time of peace and progress in recent years, with the Goldguard having a presence in every town within the Empire’s purview and hostilities with nearby regions have been sustainable. Emperor Isaac rules from his familial seat in the capital city of Sedesend.
Recent rumors have put the Olessar Empire in a state of unease. Advanced technologies of transportation and weaponry, combinations of engineering and magical enchantment, have been found originating from the Catalus Coast, with some technologies (rudimentary flying machines, arcane engines, black powder multifunctionality, crystal translocation) pervading the Olessar borders. Additionally, extraplanar entities have been sighted in the heartland of Olessar recently, appearing with no notice near or around settlements like Mazraea, while other more isolated cities like the city-state of Rookmore remain unaffected.
To the south, the wild forests of Wethucia remain unconquered by the Olessar Empire. Surrounded on most sides by the Eldermist Expanse, explorers and researchers often travel with a company of mercenaries to navigate the dense landscape. Sea travel is common, but not without its risks, be they natural, criminal, or otherwise.
To the southeast, the Catalus Coast stands as a region of independent port cities who prides themselves on their thriving trading economy and rapidly expanding technology and engineering innovations. Specifically, news has spread of the recent experimentations in the fields of transportation, metalworking, and the wider applications of black powder. Many free thinkers push the boundaries of what is known, what is possible, and what is allowed.
To the far east, Pylae – a dust dowl surrounded on most sides by mountains – is a rats nest of thieves, runaways, vagabonds, and entrepreneurs who seek to live without the restrictions of most current civilizations. Leadership is constantly shifting in these lands, and countless factions vie for territory every day. Nothing is safe.
To the northeast, the Montsevain Baronies stand as independent city-states under the rule of the local Baron. Laws and customs fluctuate greatly in relation to the small geographic footprint these baronies comprise of. Border and trade disputes arise regularly between these smaller civilizations, and conflicts are a familiar sight to their inhabitants. When ruled by a singular figure long ago, the conquest of Montsevain knew no bounds.
Evidence from before the Rend – temples, archives, remnants of cities – are being discovered in all areas of Al’tehrun. Artifacts long buried – gifts from the gods themselves – have begun to be reintroduced to society. Civilization is in a technological renaissance and in a period of rediscovering their history. The Divinities continue to observe from afar, with some seeking to influence the fate of Al’tehrun as they would desire. And this draw for power is not limited to the creators.
