Ilay Klein was born to wealthy family in 1920 in New York City, born to a family of jewish immigrants from a village in Prussia. They found their wealth in the form of pen nibs, with her family owning a factory producing nibs for fountain pens to be shipped around the world. When she was born, her father paraded her around the factory as a baby, the iridium dust and filings somehow made its way into her bloodstream, and caused the activation of her Powered Gene while she was still an infant. As she grew up, she found herself being the perfect socialite for her family, she would go to parties all around the world, finding companies to invest in to grow their wealth.
It wasn't just her sociability that was the key to her skill, but rather her ways of moving through solid matter. Some called it corporate espionage, but she would tell you it was just helping her family business. But, behind closed doors, everywhere she went she encountered anti-semitism, whether it be subtle, or more extreme as isolationist and fascist ideas slowly became more popular in America. People stopped inviting her family to parties, companies and individuals stopped accepting their investments, the closed doors opened right in her face. Then the attack on Pearl Harbor happened, and anti-semitism quickly changed into patriotism.
As a woman with extraordinary abilities who was capable of protecting those who couldn't protect themselves, she decided to volunteer herself to the army. Her strange abilities drew the attention of Dr Hardy Weber, and he extended her an offer to join his Taskforce. Ilay gladly joined the team, operating as a key infiltrator for the team, using her social prowess when needed, and using her powers when those failed. It was on the field where she met a man, not just a man but the love of her life in the form of Izel Perez, also known as Golden Jaguar. They quickly fell for each other, but forced themselves to not act on their feelings, having come from different worlds and unsure if they would lose the other in battle.
But after the war was over, a wedding was quick to follow, married at the chapel on the Brownbridge Army Reserve Base surrounded by their teammates in a celebration of their love. Even after the team disbanded, they remained in their home in Brownbridge, Ilay managing her company from there and travelling to New York when needed. Her main goal though was creating a charitable foundation to secretly support those with strange abilities, providing them with whatever resources to help control their abilities in order to lead whatever kind of life they wanted. When Ilay sadly passed away, her daughter, Norma Perez-Klein, took over the company and the foundation to carry on her mother's legacy.
