Personality

Personality
Renaer has always been a quite good natured person. If he saw someone in danger he would immediately try to help them no matter their status. His closest friends also know him to be quite the airhead at times.

History

Renaer is the child of Dagult Neverember, who served as the Open Lord of Waterdeep, and Alethea Brandarth. His father had rumored affairs with other women, causing strife within the family. Alethea died when Renaer was 19, and cut out Dagult from her will, leaving all her wealth to her son. As a result Dagult did not attend her funeral, for which Renaer renounced his father completely. The two have not spoken for years. Renaer took up managing the Brandarth Family's extensive property holdings while his father made his residence at the Palace of Waterdeep and later moved to Neverwinter once he was ousted as Open Lord.

A few years ago together with some friends Renaer rescued the Blackstaff's heir Vajra Safahr after she was captured. Vajra has since become the current Blackstaff of Waterdeep.

Introduction Scene at the Zhent Warehouse

Zhent Warehouse
  1. Renaer and his friend Floon Blaagmar (male romantic interest) were both kidnapped by the Zhents after leaving a bar last night. The Zhents originally were intending to just grab Renaer, but they got confused because the two actually look very similar. They were seeking to question Renaer about his father, Dagult Neverember, the recently deposed Open Lord. They brought them both to this warehouse and were interrogating them. Zhents ripped off Renaer's locket, a remembrance of his late mother, and discovered a hidden compartment that even Renaer didn't know about. Inside was a small white sphere that he didn't recognize. The item was of great interest and was immediately taken elsewhere by the commanding officer.
  2. However, the Agents of the Overseer also were tracking Renaer, and followed the Zhents. They attacked the warehouse soon after the commander left with the item, resulting in an all out bloodbath. In the chaos Renaer was able to slip his ties and hide in a closet. Eventually all the Zhents were killed and the Agents re-kidnapped Floon, mistaking him for Renaer. A few Agents stayed back to lay in wait and ambush any Zhents.
  3. Renaer will be located hiding in the closet, and he will be exhausted, show signs of torture, and missing health.
  4. If a character asks Renaer why the Zhents kidnapped him, he will say something like this: "The Zhentarim seem to think that my father embezzled a large amount of gold while he was Open Lord, and that he hid it somewhere in the city. They think they can find it by using an artifact called the Stone of Golorr, which was in the hands of the Agents of the Overseer until recently. Apparently, someone stole it. The Zhents thought I knew something about all of this, but I don't. My father and I haven't spoken in years after what he did when my mother died."
  5. Renaer feels guilty that Floon was taken, since he believes (correctly) that they mistook Floon for him. If the characters ask Renaer to join their search for Floon, he agrees to do so, arming himself with a dagger and a rapier scavenged from the dead Zhents in the warehouse.
  6. When other Zhent leaders arrive later in the scene, he is logically afraid that his captors have returned to get him, but it soon becomes clear that the group that did the kidnapping was working on their own, and was not known to the main Zhent leadership.
