Stormhands Stoneheart, stubborn and brave as ever, chose to face down Osric Gemdelver the Kinslayer, to give the remains of his battered clan a chance to escape the bitter fighting during theCurse of Mithril Hall. His last words to his people were, "Scatter to the winds, Stonehearts. Let no Gemdelver know Dumathoin's secret. I would rather we all die than hand His bounty to those evilhearted, goblin loving, ogre sucking..." He went on with his curses for awhile before adding, "But work always at keeping at least one of us alive. We must reclaim Mithril Hall!"
Many fled to Neverwinter and became famed jewlers and gemcutters, changing their names and blending in with the rest of the populace. Eventually the Gemdelver clan found and slew them one-by-one. But the brave Stoneheart clan members refused to surrender the great secret. Among them was a maker of exquisite jewelry named Finehands. He and his wife owned a small shop in Neverwinter, making a modest income selling jewelry far beneath Finehand's talents. Their daughter, Bryllin Stoneheart, was quite young. The Stonehearts were among the last to survive the assassins sent by Osric Gemdelver to steal Dumathoin's secret. They began teaching their daughter how to hide, sneak, and be quiet. How to avoid people and any dwrarves she hadn't met. They also insisted she learn the song about the treachery that took place in their ancestral home.
At last the final moments came. Bryllin, only a toddler by dwarven standards, had to find her hiding place and stay quiet. At first she thought it was practice. But no, she heard the assassin's gruff voice and her parents' muted screams. It was Gundren Rockseeker and Doctor Blackheart who pulled both Halbek Stoneheart and Bryllin Stoneheart from hiding and fled with them in two different directions.
