Curse of Mithril Hall

Osric Gemdelver sends infernal Unknown assassins to either abduct of kill Bryllin Stoneheart. They are unsucessful.

Osric Gemdelver and Beatrix Gemdelver  begin a construction project Under the Mountain and Mithral becomes scarce. It is not known why; perhaps in destroying the Stoneheart Clan they lost the secrets of Dumathoin and were unable to harvest the precious mineral, or perhaps it is just greed. For whatever reason, the flowing rivers of myth and legend are now a scant trickle.

The Temple of Helm was destroyed including many guardians and protectors, but Bryllin Stoneheart escaped.

In the interest of the economy Doran Axehaft agrees to work with the Gemdelver's moving goods between Mithril Hall and the rest of the world. They have exclusive rights to this trade.

After wandering many leagues from Mithral Hall in hopes of eluding pursuers, Gundren Rockseeker finds an appropriate home in the Temple of Helm where Gundren and Ward Wildwood forbade here from leaving the temple ever again.

On the death of Bruenor Battlehammer there was no heir so he left his kingdom to his more trusted councilors and it was the heads of these families that ruled Mithril Hallfor the next decade:

• Axehaft
• Fireforge
• Gemdelver
• Stoneheart
• Tenderforge

But it was Osric Gemdelver who led the pack, opposed only the the Stoneheartclan.  One-by-one the other three families removed themselves from power until only the obstinate Finehands Stoneheart was left leading the opposition to the clan Gemdelver's plan to crown Osric the 11th King Under the Mountain.

The Gemdelvers lead an angry mob that topples the council and slaughters many within the halls. When it is over, peace is achieved by crowning Osric the 11th King Under the Mountain.

The Fireforgrelocates to Settlestone abandoning centuries old forges beneath the mountain.

Bruenor died without issue and thus appointed a council to rule after his death in 1390.  

It was during the Battle of Keeper's Dale, Bruenor and the other Companions of the Hall freed Gandalug Battlehammer from a powerful spell leaving the ancient dwarf a servant of Baenre. In 1362 DR, Bruenor abdicated his throne to Gandalug, the founder of Mithral Hall, making him the 1st and 9th King of Mithral Hall. The old dwarf died only a few years later, no doubt from old age, as the spell that had held him captive and postponed his aging had worn off.

In the year 1358 DR an army of drow, goblins and kobolds led by House Baenre attacked Mithral Hall, from Menzoberranzan. The defending dwarves soon received aid from svirfneblin from Blingdenstone, local barbarians from Settlestone led by Berkthgar the Bold, reinforcements from Nesme, led by Galen Firth and the Knights of Silver and the mysterious Harpells of Longsaddle. At one point the wizard Alustriel even appeared to deter the attackers. After a few days of intense fighting, the evil drow and other races were eventually defeated and driven back to their shadowy homes.

In time, the deepest mines carved out by the dwarves of Mithral Hall broke into a shadowcavern. The cavern was said to be linked to the Plane of Shadows. An immensely powerful shadow dragon named Haerinvureem (known as Shimmergloom) was subsequently released into the mines.[citation needed]

The dragon, who later became known as Shimmergloom, was aided by hordes of shadow creatures and a whole clan of duergar. The loyal dwarves stood and fought allowing the few not strong enough the opportunity to flee. Among those that escaped was a young Bruenor Battlehammer.[citation needed]

The dragon ravaged Mithral Hall slaying thousands of dwarves. Thibbledorf Pwent was one of the few dwarves that fought in the battle and survived, although he was presumed dead for quite some time.[30] Bangor Battlehammer and his father Garumn Battlehammer died in the battle slaying hordes of Duergar. As they died their surrounding area was probably cursed as their bodies and possessions remained untouched centuries later.

Garumn Battlehammer was the sixth King of Mithral Hall, and grandfather to the legendary Bruenor Battlehammer. Garumn was killed fighting duergar in Mithral Hall when his kin mined too deep and released the dragon known as Shimmerglooom.
