Lore: Language 101

Human Nations

  • Alvarian - The language spoken in the Monarchy of Alvarium, it has also become something of a common trade tongue amongst many factions.
  • Hisuese - The language spoken in the Dynasty of the Jade Lotus.
  • Brytic - The language spoken in the Kingdom of Maddox.
  • Old Brytic - Now mostly a dead language, this was once spoken widely by humans across Terra Oikos.
  • Namorian - Now mostly a dead language, this was once spoken across the Namorian Empire - it still sees use in academic and religious practices.

Non-Humans

  • Elvish - A derivative of Sylvan, the language spoken in the Elven Assemblies.
  • High Elvish - An uncommon variant of Elvish, spoken only by the nobility of the Elven Assemblies.
  • Gnomish - A derivative of Sylvan, the language spoken by Gnomes.
  • Halfling - The language spoken by Halflings (though halflings do not have their own nation and tend to favour the 'local' language).
  • Dwarven - A derivative of Horatal, the language spoken in the Dwarven Thaneships.
  • Jotunic - A derivative of Horatal, the language spoken by Giants.
  • Greenskin - The language spoken by the Greenskin Tribes and the Goblin Nation (as well as other independent orcs, goblins, trolls, etc.).
  • Draconic - A derivative of True Draconic, the language spoken by the Kobold Clans and the Theocracy of Franz.
  • Selachii - The language spoken by the Selachii.
  • Unknown(?) - The language spoken by Tenoch of Tletlacah.

Other

  • Sylvan - The true language of the fey folk.
  • Horatal - The precursor to the dwarven Dwarven and Jotunic languages - still sees some limited use by Dwarven Rune Priests.
  • Stygian - The native language of devils, demons and other infernal beings.
  • True Draconic - The true language of dragons, unpronounceable to most other races.
