Gwynedd Blaidd is the child of High Lord Rolfe Blaidd; a respected noble and member of the high council of Alvarium. He allows his daughter to train with the household guard and Gwynedd has amassed an impressive string of victories in the practice yard - but every triumph is hollow. The soldiers strike a fraction too slow and lower their guards a moment too soon. None wish to risk injuring their lord’s favourite child. Gwynedd knows this, she knows that the praise laid upon her is not earned and that she has been denied the opportunity to truly test and demonstrate her skill.
Claiming to visit a cousin in a neighbouring province, Gwynedd instead cuts and dyes her hair, dons plain gear, and enters her father's own tournament under the false name Gwyn Ci Bach - "Gwyn the little dog". She neither seeks nor expects victory; she seeks an honest fight, an earnest opponent, and the chance to learn where she actually stands so she can further hone her skill and prove what she already knows - that she has what it takes to serve with (and maybe one day lead) Lord Blaidd's wolves.
