Ambassador
A pocket-sized electronic device capable of analyzing and translating languages spoken near it into another language -- so long as both languages have are available in its expansive memory banks. An ambassador device can be paired with a comlink, savant, or any other computer through a simple process, but it can also be set to widely broadcast translations through its own speakers.
Comlink
A small, wearable device that allows an individual to send and receive both text and audio communications. It comes equipped with speakers that allows it to be heard by anyone within short range, and it is sensitive enough to pick up the wearer even when they are whispering.
Comlinks can be directly linked with one another for smaller, private communication networks, though these small networks are not directly encrypted. They can also be connected to ship- or planetary-wide communication networks, or even to FTL transmitters and orbital relay networks to allow interplanetary or even interstellar communications.
Such broader networks are also typically connected to a Datamask, to prevent outsiders from listening in.
Data Chip
A device of varying size, typically pocket-sized or smaller, for storing data. They come in a wide variety of designs and purposes, some of them general while others are built to only store particular kinds of data.
Datamask
A portable encryption device that can be interfaced with a comlink or similar communications tools, in order to scramble any outgoing transmissions. Another datamask on the receiving end, equipped with the same encryption codes, is then able to decrypt and read the incoming messages.
A message encrypted by a datamask requires a Daunting (Difficulty 4) Computers check in order for it to be decrypted.
Personal Drone
A simple drone designed to assist in a variety of tasks. They are typically equipped with a simple artificial intelligence and purpose-built for household tasks -- cooking, cleaning, entertainment -- though more advanced models provide support for professional work. Mechanical drones, for example, equipped with tools to perform mechanical repairs, or cargo-hauling drones for warehouse work. Regardless of the model, a drone can be linked to a computer to allow a user access to its sensors and diagonostics.
For a specific drone, choose a particular skill that it has been built for: Astrocarography, Computers, Mechanics, Operating, Piloting, Skulduggery, Survival, any one Knowledge skill.
As long as the drone is actie and within short range, the character operating the drone adds 1 Bonus to checks made with the chosen skill. The bonus is also added for any Perception or Vigilance checks made if the drone is linked to a savant or quintisensor and would be able to assist.
Portable FTL Commpack
A heavy backpack that carries a compact FTL transmitter. This transmitter can be set up in a few minutes, and is powerful enough to send a signal to a neighbouring star system -- whether for emergency or clandestine contact.
It takes two maneuvers to deploy the FTL comCommpack, and its power supply allows for one hour of continuous transmission. These transmissions start to degrade after approximately three light-years, and are almost imperceivable after six.
Perimeter Beacon
An invaluable tool for anyone travelling through dangerous wilderness. When placed, it expands to a height of three meters and a small drone attached to its tip flies around it, keeping an eye out for any motion or intrusion. It has an effective range of several dozen meters, and multiple beacons can be linked together in a large chain of sensors to keep larger encampents alert.
A perimeter beacon scans the terrain in a long range around its position. While it is active, anyone attempting to sneak past the beacon must make a Hard (2 Difficulty, 1 Challenge) Stealth check.
Quintisensor
Used primarily by medical staff and field-operating scientists, a quintisensor is a handheld diagnostic device. Its powerful sensors are able to scan energy forms, living creaturs, and objects, and its readout displays offer guidance on what was scanned. This can include its biology, energy signature, and molecular composition. This information can be linked together with a savant or a computer to further record and analyze any findings.
The quintisensor allows a character to conduct a wide range of passive and active scans. While using a quintisensor, you count as having "the right tools for the job" when scanning or analyzing an object or location. It also adds 1 Sucess to the result of any Perception or Vigilance checks that involve use of the tool.
Savant
A small and powerful personal computer that is almost ubiquitous across across the galaxy. A myriad of models and designs exist, differing greatly from one part of the galaxy to another, but most individuals own a savant of some sort. It may be a handheld device with a screen; a wholly voice-activated piece of jewelry; an augmented set of eyewear; or even a neurally linked device. It serves as a computational system, a way to access informational networks, and as a communications device similar to a comlink.
If your character has a savant, you add 1 Success to the result of any Knowledge checks that involve use of it.
