The presence of the Merenaen Trading Consortium in Ryoko Owari is immediately obvious and jarring. Occupying the majority of the block the building itself stands out from those around it by the sheer foreignness of it, bearing no resemblance whatsoever to Rokugani architecture. Even the wall around it breaks from tradition being made of wrought iron bars rather than the more typical stone.
Inside, the grounds are palatial and imposing. There are a few smaller outbuildings, but the majority of the space is occupied by the broad edifice of the MTC offices. Past the grandiose entry hall, however, things open up slightly to a courtyard surrounded by a large arcade. The air filled with all manner of unusual cooking smells coming from the various stalls, there traders strike deals of all sizes from entire shiploads of raw materials to delicate foreign trinkets sold to curious Rokugani.
