Treaty of Golden Sun Bay

  • Opening additional ports.
  • Gaijin are permitted to engage in trade directly rather than required to work through domestic intermediaries.
  • Fixed tariff rates.
  • Extraterritoriality - Gaijin are not subject to Rokugani law or custom and will be exclusively tried within their own courts.
  • Permanent consul and consulate in Otosan Uchi.
  • Freedom of movement for temporary foreign residents in treaty ports.
  • In all the treaty ports listed, gaijin may permanently reside, have the right to lease land and purchase the buildings thereon, and may erect dwellings and warehouses.
  • Ownership of Kameyama Jima is ceded to Thrane in perpetuity.

While the treaty terms with both Thrane and Merenae are roughly the same, the treaty with Merenea additionally addresses the Omoidaso Incident.

  • The Empire agrees that the samurai responsible will formally apologize by performing seppuku.
  • Reparations are to be paid to Merenae.
  • Merenae, while not officially apologizing for their actions, agrees to contribute to the rebuilding of the city.
  • In turn, the rebuilt city will be opened as a licensed port with favorable terms granted to the Merenaen Trading Consortium. Smaller towns in the region being utilized until rebuilding is complete.
