Griz is mostly unable to speak due to a severe shrapnel injury to his layrnx early in his mercenary career, which causes him to communicate in a mix of seemingly unintelligible grunts, body language and a modified form of sign language. This makes him almost impossible to understand to anyone who hasn't spent some amount of time with him.
