Ch'erek'a, literally meaning "crescent" in the Forked Tongue, is the largest settlement on what is known as the Crescent Isle to the Trolls. This however is a mistranslation, for though the town's name means Crescent, Bētin residents refer the the Isle as Ma‘ibeli-wisit’i-desēti or just Ma‘ibeli, meaning "Island in the Storm". This derives from the vicious tropical storms that often strike the island, worse even than those along the rest of the coast of Bēti.

Despite these less than pleasant conditions, Ch'erek'a protects key shipping lanes between The Old World and Ādīsi Geneti along the Straits of the Moon. Going around the Crescent Isle can easily add on a week or two's journey through rough, rocky and monster infested waters, so the port town collects a great deal of tax revenue and trade in the bay to the north. Additionally, there are many lead and silver mines to the south of the town, bolstering the economy in the mercantile off season.

The population of Ch'erek'a are a hardy bunch to withstand the weather. Like much of the Republic, the population is largely Chameleons, with a smattering of other races. Surprisingly enough, it has one of the largest Troll populations in Bēti, largely originating from settled survivors of shipwrecks of Imperial ships attempting to circumvent the Strait, either to avoid taxes or out of  racial dislike for the Lizardfolk race. Very few Yetis live on Ch'erek'a, due mostly to the climate, as hot damp fur is deeply unpleasant for them.

Unusually for the largely Dezraeli Bēti, there is a growing sect of Amaryllis worshippers on the isle, possibly drawn by the lunar connections. A largely insular group, they have conflicted little with the largely secular republic, though some extremists have started to proselytise, sending missionaries both west, deeper into Bēti, and east towards the Empire.
