This massive gorge was created by a spell cast by Nox during the Balla Incursion, in response to an attack led by Countess Orla Drakenfiend. The attacking force also included Dixie Flemingbottom and the Fod Heavy Cavalry, Eslo Lightfoot and his sons, and Donq Yotay, who had invited himself along.
The spell punctured the water table, carved a colossal scar through the landscape and created a new river. It chiefly decimated Nox's own army, including a Grave Tyrant that Donq had been fighting. Of the attacking force, only Eslo was struck; he was killed instantly, while Donq survived unscathed.
The gorge lies along the border between the Second Kingdom of Tír and Upper Manzil, cutting through the ancestral homelands of the Giants. Its western end begins immediately east of Balla, where the spell tore away part of the eastern face of the mountain beneath the city.
