Our party met with Silence to prepare for our negotiations with the Prince of the Bog. As we followed the river, the kelpie enlightened us as to how to address the Prince, though he would not be assisting us further upon our arrival. It turned out the Chimera Syndicate had also sent someone to speak with the Fey— a man named Karo. He was already in the midst of negotiating with the Prince when we arrived. Silence quickly stepped aside as the talks began.
The Prince set out a banquette on the ice, though the raw meat was not to my taste and I prevented Pil from indulging as well. As the discussion began, the Prince made it clear that she was only interested in upholding a deal with whichever organization could be the most entertaining, and offer her the most interesting gifts in exchange. Throughout the debate, we convinced her that our active claim on the land and the disorganization of the Navigators had far more entertainment to offer than the tight ship and speculation of the syndicate, and from the castle we offered stagstone weapons. Out of either desperation or personal curiosity, Karo suggested a duel. Turning him down would have likely damaged our efforts with the prince, so we accepted. Though we were victorious in the bout, Karo claimed that his interests were only in confirming the information the Syndicate had stolen; no doubt he was also trying to save face. We left, our deal with Silence—and now the Prince of the Bog, in tact and with confirmation that it was indeed the Chimera Syndicate who made off with our missing reports. I believe we should consider the Syndicate a hostile organization looking to sabotage our efforts and uproot our operation. Solsort
